What would you do?

I am thinking - please hear me out and say it’s a fact - not a false belief
About 13 years ago I went to acupuncture college in Reading.teacher there showed my tongue to the entire class saying that this woman Basically had their death timed out physically… And said I might have as much as 20 or 30 years left… If I err on the side of caution and I might have three or four or five years now… maximum 15 - like facing old-age now…
Should I move to a smaller house and go on lots of lifetime holidays? Should My husband give up work?
With an outside chance of reaching 15 years in the future I would like to make most of it now instead of saving for old-age
I really don’t know what to do when this was 20 -30 years in the future I had no problems
now thinking it is very close in the future

I want to point something out that I hope can help:

basically is not the same as guarantee.

Imagine if you went to a doctor and she said “I’m going to operate on you, basically I think I’ll do a good job”. That would be pretty scary, and you wouldn’t trust her. In the same way, you shouldn’t trust something someone basically said 13 years ago.

I don’t think an acupuncture teacher, or anyone at all, can predict a person’s lifespan just by looking at their tongue.

I just don’t believe it, call me a cynic if you like.

If I was in your position, I would disregard the advice of this teacher, and plan my future accordingly.

I wouldn’t blow my life’s savings and stop planning for the future, simply because of how my tongue looks.

that seems like a mean thing to say. and such might cause a self fulfilling prophecy.

i think it is good to be wise about the future but to also enjoy the moment. my sister was given a terminal dx about 3 months after she retired. she had considered early retirement and of course we all wish she had of done that.

i don’t think i’d put my faith in that prediction. i don’t think she should have said such a thing even if she believed it.

I’ve known many folks who kept saying they never thought they would make it to old age, that they just knew they were going to die young, My dad and aunt were two of those, and they both lived to be 81 years old…and never planned more than a day ahead of time.
What a waste of time.

he didn’t use those words
he called the entire class over and said look at this woman’s signs
this is how a tongue looks where this woman has a short life span. don’t worry he said to me - you might have twenty or thirty years left

I think my main consideration with not doing anything like sell the house… would be that my Mum would get it out of me why we are down sizing. Then she’d not have a great old age where she has very few worries as i am in a stable marriage, and have to worry about me and my alcoholic sister.
I am unwell enough to need a lot of help - one day my husband may have to leave work to keep me company / safe (or switch to part time).

I suppose the other side of the story in considering this is that i have a trust fund and will not need for either of us to worry about not having a roof over our heads. (£1000.00 a month when my parents are both gone)

Your advice / story about your sister is tragic, I’m sorry.

I wish i didn’t have this worry.

I have to say that it’s not my entire life savings - I have a trust fund likely to bring £800.00 - £1100.00 a month when my parents die and my husband has a salary pension with one company for 25 yrs which he will be able to access in 15 years

Come on Chrystal, don’t pay attention to this guy. it was a long time ago.

If you live a healthy lifestyle you will live a long time, whatever your tongue says, yeh

i hope the best for you chrystal. unlike your tongue checker i don’t know what you should do.

That so-called teacher is full of shite, disregard what was said about your tongue. That doesn’t even qualify as pseudoscience. Take it from a one-time medical student who knows a lot more about the human body than an acupuncture teacher.
