What was your experience on abilify?

Have you tried other antipsychotics in the past?
What makes this antipsychotic different from all the other ones?
Is this a third generation antipsychotic?

Made me wake up to early. Trouble breathing. Not my choice.

It’s very good for me but I don’t have sZ but it made me way better. I had psychosis some stuff no one knows about I was living in constant fear of what was happening around me. I couldn’t think straight before tan AP med. I was on a couple and this one has least side effects

Way too activating!
Made me extremely anxious and paranoid.

It did however keep me out of the hospital.

That’s really awesome
Glad you were able to get that under control
Are you still going through paranoia and delusions even on the abilify?

What do you do if you have really bad anxiety?

LS! I did not like Abilify. It made me nervous. Also I think a side effect was that when I got stressed I lost my eyesight, I saw only black. This effect lasted sometimes an hour most of the time only a minute. But it gave lasting damage to my eyesight and now I do not dare bicycle in busy traffic anymore.

Its dubbed a third generation antipsychotic, which is good because though its technically an atypical (2nd generation) AP, it does act quite differently from what I understand. But for me, even the max dose of abilify just makes me tired and though it probably does help a little -might as well be a sugar pill (for me).

I’m only just starting it. So far all good, it gives me energy, has lifted my mood and is countering the increased appetite from olanzapine.

@Wave did you stay out of hospital because you were lacking insight and symptomatic, or did you mean that it did offer some coverage/enough to stay above needing hospitalization? Just curious bc im on abilify and may be in psychosis and need a med change. So also my apologies if i write/communicate oddly

Abilify offered enough coverage to keep me out of the hospital.

It made me feel normal. I miss it.

I am much better with AP meds than not. I still have a lot of difficulties bc of my schizotypal personality I guess. I still have hung into some of my fears from when I has psychosis maybe. I do have things that no one believes so I don’t talk about it.
The AP meds all helped a lot the same but Abilify left me with no side effects that was as bad as the others. I am really lazy or something but that could be the AP meds or brain stuff. It’s been bad since I first got sick. I’m getting a CT scan

Abilify made me manic. Had to come off it eventually because of that. Otherwise it was sick. Had better sleep, more energy, lost a load of weight on it, better sex drive etc. Probably my favourite anti psychotic I’ve been on even if it did make me manic.

My every tenth or eleventh thought was an extreme paranoid thought on Abilify. I had to take prn Stelazine while I was on Abilify. It was hell. I finally had to come off of Abilify after about a week or so. I couldn’t take the paranoia anymore.

I knew there were others that lost eyesight on it! I took the first dose and went to sleep, next morning and for next 3 days I was blind. I went to ER cause hubby was scared and they said there was no way. My GP is the one who said nope, off it. 1 ■■■■■■■ dose.
I value my vision more than the control of symptoms. And in don’t even know if it woulda worked, trading one disability for another. NOPE.

Blind for three days must be very very scary. Do you remember how many mg did you take?

Do you have to wait until the abilify out of your system before your eyesight back? Did they gave you any medicine while you are in the hospital?

I think Abilify may have impaired my judgement and my approach toward risk taking so I went off it. I was ok on Abilify as far as my positive symptoms … Only one relapse when I was on it. I’m on Risperidone now and since being on it I have had a lot of trouble making decisions and following through on anything as well as negative symptoms always being there.

Made me anxious and agitated. I barely slept on it. It was a nightmare and cost me my drivers license for at least another 6 months.

It looks great on paper, but it did not work for me.

I was on 30mg
