What to do when faced with "meds are evil" propaganda

Best thing to do is ignore them. Don’t argue, they’ll push their circumstantially contrived “facts” no matter what. I feel like silencing them is a crusade worth waging, but in the end it is most important to control our minds before the minds of others. Needless confrontation could unbalance the mind of someone who struggles with anger, and will likely accomplish nothing anyways.
I made it 6 years without meds. Age 16 to 22. Those were also the years of my life that I lost and will never get back. Which is not to say that the meds have cured me. They create huge complications and bad side effects. I know this doesn’t work for everyone, but I’ve tried placing myself somewhere in the middle. The 6 meds I’m on are weak, despite my invega sustena being at max injection dose, but I take them anyway. I’m doing far better than the 11 meds I was on when I was released from the institution after 4.5 months. The meds won’t save you. But they can buy you a little wiggle room to use mental techniques to find your way. I find that, as with many things, the truth lies somewhere in the middle

I think it comes down to a question of balance. There are BS merchants who say the meds are evil and there are BS merchants who overhype the meds. For some people the meds works well. For others quite well and for the rest not well at all.

Apart from one year off meds I’ve been on some form of meds for nearly 45 years.
They’ve probably helped, at least if the pdocs etc are to be believed. However with almost exclusively meds alone I’ve never got near to recovery.

I do think the best approach meds wise is to go the lowest therapeutic dose route. I think nowadays that is what most pdocs try to do.
I am sure some of us who were around in the 70s and 80s can remember the days of heavy doses of largactil or other similar meds like mellaril.
It truly was the period of the chemical cosh .

I apologize if my posts weren’t clear. I was just trying to explain why I disagree with websites and other sources that are against meds for treatment. Like the Church of Scientology. I think maybe you should just avoid websites and other sources that push ideas that you don’t agree with or make you uncomfortable. Just do your best to ignore them, don’t let their ideas upset you.

There is none.

The meds are the alterative itself. With out, it would be restraint or cell at best.

I have read old timey books(medical/psychology). You would not believe the stuff done:

  1. spinning people in circles.

  2. insulin overdose to inducd seizures

  3. Dunking people in cold water

As we can see, the meds are the most humane way that is also effective to improve quality of life.

I have had trouble with sites like this, that promote certain supplements or fasting. They’re claiming to be doing you a favor by offering something that will be cheaper than meds. Like supplements, fasting, a lifestyle, whatever. In the end, they might as well be selling you thin air. Don’t go off meds prescribed by a doctor (They went to serious schooling for this crap), you’ll end up in a worse place.

I did not get to watch all (just Dan). I have seen these types of vids before. This is exactly what I am talking about.

Even animals get a second chance and are treated in a humane way when they act out strangely because of illness. (canine distemper infects the canine brain. I have seen many survivors)

Dan deserves a second chance and so do we!!!

Zeno gets it.

Interesting videos. I don’t think anyone sensible is saying meds don’t work very well for some people. However the effects for most people are less dramatic even if to some degree positive.

I don’t view meds or drugs like other people view them. People don’t take western medicine but will do eastern medicine. Its all drugs anyway. I’m not saying drugs shouldn’t be classified but EVERYTHING is a drug. It all has side effects, positive effects. It is just a matter of how it effects a certain person. U can have someone take something and have it effect them differently then another person. People who claim to be sober but they buy anime constantly. Or people who play video games a ton as a kid and then substitute it later on with alcohol and cannabis. Meds aren’t evil they are just another chemical we’ve discovered. U have to take whats right for u. Ingest whats right for u. We should be cautious with what drugs can be deadly. “We take drugs to see the world the way we want it”

My father is anti med. He thinks I should be able to control my sz with meditation.

My answer to that is that he’s never had a chronic illness.

BTW Happy Birthday @firemonkey! (I’m a day ahead so I get in early with birthday wishes)

Meds don’t do too much for me but that doesn’t mean it’s that way for everybody. It was an AD that triggered what I’m pretty sure was the only mixed state episode I’ve ever had.

I don’t feel good about having been and still being obese for 20 years from taking drugs that didn’t work though.

Still I guess there’s progress. What I’m on now budges the hallucination needle slightly and allows me to lose weight.

I just stay off any website that puts “schizophrenia” in quotes.

There are people who will tell you to take peach pits for your cancer. Whatever. Do that for your own goddamn self. Other people want to live.

I know some people believe what they say but there are also many trolls. I won’t engage them directly, but I will tell people what I think, backed up with science, bitches.

I fear about the vulnerable people reading these comments who have not made up their minds and are duped into believing the idea that meds are evil. Without challenging this disinformation, we allow ignorance to gain power enough to trick uncertain or ignorant people.

That’s just me though. I’m the type to counter them with evidence just in case someone nearby is vulnerable and might believe it if I don’t prove them wrong. I once dated a Saudi who said in his country the sz’s are put in hospitals and given their holy books to read and left unmedicated and locked up permanently. I said, you know there’s a pill they can take that if taken for 6 months to a year can greatly reduce their symptoms and allow them to lead a normal life. He was like, no, they never get better. They are needing God.
eyes roll Then again, I guess you can lead a horse to solid data but you can’t make him swallow the conclusions.
