What should I do?

Pay £900 privately for an autism assessment to get it done within a month…or wait 2 months for an NHS appointment. I’d like to get it done sooner than later so I can then apply for support especially for looking for the right role. Of course it could be I don’t have autism but I’m just impatient. .

id wait for the appointment if i were you… unless you have the money… its not like they give you meds or anything really as far as i understand it so i wouldnt be in a rush…its good to know and to get help for but if youre coping fine maybe wait for it. Health is important but its a ton of money just for 1 month sooner. thats just my opinion. Thats what i would do… to wait and just avoiding making any unnessisary purchases… can be an issue with bipolar (which i have) …overspending.

I can try and wait for a month it’s just all I do is look at my phone for any appointment emails. I guess I waited 3 years , two more months shouldn’t be an issue now.

That’s a ton of money just to expedite by 30 days. I would wait for the NHS.

Plus I shouldn’t have to go privately heck I shouldn’t have had to wait 3 years but I think the services are overstretched.

I wouldn’t pay

You might get a better response from DWP when applying for PIP, but that’s about it

Here where I live they do nothing but diagnose

They gave me an outdated list of third-sector services, and I tried a few of them and they were not taking on new people

It’s helpful to know these things though. Personally it has allowed me to understand myself a bit better.

If you have these traits and other elements, you can try and mitigate the pitfalls. But there are also some very good things to it, however, the bad can be pretty distressing etc

My main learning from it has been to almost not try to appease others by trying to ‘fit in’

Hope you can get answers, as it seems to be causing you problems not knowing. I’d perhaps contact the service from the NHS and explain how this is hurting you not getting a prompt appointment. They might move you up the list

Unfortunately I waited three years but no one to do the assessment. I asked to be referred to a private clinic via right to choose so they accept NHS referrals there too. So now it’s a 2 month wait. But at least it’s not years I guess.

Oh jeeze this seems like a no brainer to me

Wait until you can get an appt. It’s just another month , you’ll be fine.

2 months but yeah I will wait it out. 2 months hopefully will fly by.

I say wait. To spend the money would be typical Bipolar spending.

I have big doubts I’m bipolar. He did mention emotional disregulation but that can happen with autism. I might just be sz with autism or simple psychosis with autism.
