What percent recover completely from schizophrenia…tell me the exact statistics
It depends what you are asking. Are you asking do they recover from positive symptoms while on meds?
Are you asking if people recover and go off meds with no positive symptoms?
Are you just asking how many people successful get off meds?
I’m not sure what your definition of recovery is.
Go off meds…free from positive and negative symptoms
I’ve read figures in the past that have stated like one in five may EVENTUALLY be able to wean themselves off antipsychotics, but I’m not sure to be honest if all of those people were free of positive symptoms and negative symptoms.
I know you wanted specific numbers but that’s about the best I can do without researching. My temptation was just to answer your question with the answer of “Very few”
I have no idea. That’s a great question for your doctor as he/she would likely know.
I think you are asking a lot to be free of both Positives AND negatives of sz without AP’s. I would guess the number would be worse than I stated. Negatives are particularly hard to shake.
When i googled i found …nami estimates half of schizophrenia patients recover significantly or even completely …is it wrong statement
They are probably talking about recovery with medication.
That’s why I asked you what you meant by “recovery”.
" 50% of people with schizophrenia are either recovered or improved to the point that they can work and live on their own. 25% are better but need help from a strong support network to get by."
This is with medication
90% relapsed without medicine in two years, out of the 10% who recovered a large portion of them were drug abusers Remission and recovery during the first outpatient year of the early course of schizophrenia - PubMed
It’s worse than I thought only 1% meet the recovery criteria after two years
My doctor considers me to be in “remission” because Abilify dampens the intensity of many of my symptoms, such as the voices, and I can function reasonably well. I can talk and write in coherent thoughts. I think my writing is much better than my talking. Ah, well. I have trouble preparing food. I might be good at it if I really tried hard, but it so boring.
Thats about what my psychiatrist told me, 5% only recover off meds without having any positive symptoms. And yeah most of those are drug users probably.
Yea I am pretty sure the rate is 0%. I see all the users who stopped meds on the forum still suffer with negative symptoms off meds. I stopped meds for 2yrs and still had the same negative symptoms. Maybe negative symptoms are brain damage and permanent.
I read that 30% stay recovered without meds.
Without any positive, negative and cognitive symptoms?
I guess thats after 1 episode, after 2+ episodes the % is much less.
Yes, a full recovery. I’ll see if I can find the article.
Hello Junior, due to the side effects I could not handle the medication as such, after 5 months the medical team and I agreed we would attempt treatment by therapy. The last time I took antipsychotics was in 2017. What we identified subsequently was damage to my working memory, in essence, I quickly lost a lot of my cognitive functions during the time I took medication. Since then I would say that I have recuperated a lot since then. As I detailed in an earlier post, my positive symptoms seem to be triggered by stressful situations or pressured commitments. Therefore, absent of this they remain relatively low. I do however, experience negative symptoms, but at times it is difficult to distinguish whether they are in fact symptoms or just normal feelings and experiences associated with just existing.
