What medication is good?

My pdoc is thinking about putting me on albify medication. Is it a good one? Someone told me that it helps you loose weight is this true?

Or what meds would you recommend for not putting on weight?

It didn’t make me gain or lose weight it was weight neutral for me. I didn’t have a good experience with it but for many it is considered to be a med with less side effects compared to other meds.

Abilify, Latuda and geodon are all supposed to be weight neutral but it’s different for everyone. Geodon made me a lose a good deal of weight but I had a nasty experience with it otherwise.

Abilify has a weight loss side effect, which manifests early in the treatment. This is a rare side effect. The weight loss stops on it’s own for most people. Almost all anti psychotics support weight gain. Controlled diet and proper exercise help in curbing over weight more than any medicine.

any one I’m not bing push off on would be nice.

I actually got an increase in physical strength from Abilify. They eventually had to take me off it because it got my a little too hyper. It’s the only ap I’ve ever taken that had any effect on the negative symptoms of schizophrenia.
Geodon has been a really good medication for me. It is weight neutral for me. It handles my symptoms with the fewest side effects. I also take Seroquel with my Geodon, but I honestly don’t think Seroquel has any effect on me. I don’t feel it. For some people Seroquel is too sedating.

I don’t truly believe any of them are. BUt they are “necessary”. Or so we’ve been told. But trust me, we can still take control of the switch. Still testing out the waters and winning every battle but it’s a hard life.

But at least I can be creative again! That’s more important than this body. This body is only temporary. I don’t care what happens to it. This brain is a part of this body.

But no…I would never ever tell anyone to go off of their meds because we are all different and respond differently. I will go back on if things get too bad but I’m still here fighting.

That being said…zyprexa is good for knocking away psychosis but it broke my dick so that’s just a no-no for me…it also caused me to gain 50 pounds and look like a forty year old.

Not trying to die from dieabetes.

Ativan is great and can give you control during psychosis but has the potential for addiction so it must be on an as needed basis…i think APs should be that way, too.

Abilify didn’t work for me…Too many side effects like akathesia bad. I take Vraylar and like it. What works or doesn’t work for me might not be the same for you

Hi crimby! This is Andhrawala. What did your doctor say about the Geodon and Seroquel combination. You seem to be taking them in high doses(both drugs). Did you meet the Doctor?

I’m concerned because I too was once on that combination (Quetiapine SR 600 and Ziprasidone 60mg). I was taking Abilify 30 mg too with them. After nearly one month on those meds one afternoon, I fell on the bed unconscious for nearly two hours and after that slowly regained consciousness. That is Syncope I experienced. When I saw the literature I was stunned to see that both Ziprasidone and Quetiapine prolonged the QT interval extensively. You can take one of them at a time but never in a combination. That is why I am eager to know what your Doctor said. Please don’t misunderstand me and reply to this letter. Thank you.

I’ve been taking both those drugs for a long time. The doctor says little about it. When I see him once a month he asks me if I’m having any trouble with my med’s, and I say “no”. Some guy was on the internet saying how that combination of drugs can cause a heart problem.

I have tried risperdal abilify and qutiapine (qutiapine for 10 years. The others I was on briefly)

Risperdal worked well. Abilify was awful. Qutiapine worked but I no longer wanted any pills. 5 weeks ago I was put on Paliperidone injection and it’s been working out OK. My sleep improved and no weight gain. I had come off my medication prior to it so had some symptoms come back that have resolved now.

I am different to you though. So what will work for me may not you. This is my experience. Your doctor will know you well. They have been through extensive training and have years and years of research and being in the field of medicine.
