What med do you use to help you sleep?

My scriptologist prescribed a med that is supposed to be a very light sleep aid but it says long term use causes organ failure. So, I want something else. I have been offered a full time job and need to stop sleeping all day and being up all night. A few nighta a week I struggle with not sleeping and need a sleep aid. Thanks

I mix l theanine and melatonin. I currently take 5 mg of melatonin and 200 mg l theanine at night

I’m on Trazadone, 300 mg…some people only need 100 mg but I really struggle without taking the above amount. it’s non addictive and has a virtue of being also an anti depressant.

Ativan is the only thing that’s worked for me but it’s a benzo. I want to try Prazosin instead.

Amitryptiline used to make me sleep.

I’m on trazadone. I resisted taking antidepressants for the longest time for two reasons. I was on an antidepressant when the illness began and the drugs caused angry spells. But when they added trileptal I was able to be compliant to them. I wished that had happened much sooner because I really needed them.

I take abilify when I wake up, and I get to sleep 12 -14 hours later . When I was unmedicated I would sleep at all times, during the day etc.

Melatonin and L-Theanine work for me.

Nice work, HuckFinn. The benefits of both extend well beyond just making you fall asleep. I was just about to say that melatonin is widely underestimated in its role to good health, but then Google gave me more links like this one than I could be bothered looking at haha

They all give me the craziest kind of dreams…

Now that my serotonin dose is lower I can use that to get all tired eyed and in combo with melatonin it typically does the trick…

Zyprexa is a my last defense… but it’s not necessarily a sleep aid

GABA+Serotonin = lucid dreams. I left out some of the seasonings, but the recipe still works.

Dude GABA is the ■■■■…

This is the 5th day of taking a 500mg veggie pill 2-3 times a day. I’m down to one 5htp a day…

I’m a bit slower but things do come in clearer. The intensity of every moment has dropped. My desire to argue with the voices on every point is diminishing…

This doesn’t really belong here, but at the mentioning of GABA. I had to speak up.

GABAergic dysfunction appears to underpin numerous mental illnesses. I’m going to investigate and look for links to oxidative stress as possible causal factors …

You’ll see this opinion emerging in more of my posts, but I am seeing serotonin scapegoating leading many people away from homeostasis … and I’m glad you take 5HTP and aren’t stuck on an SSRI or something. Guh!

Your posts are becoming more and more uplifted too, Azley. It’s great to see

Melatonin I take. I like it.

An update: I’ve reached for my wife’s Quetiapine IR (instant release) (Seroquel) a few times when experiencing sleep performance anxiety and found it helpful. It just takes a while for me to shake the haze the next morning. Diazepam works well too, but is only for short bursts when things are rough.

In terms of non-prescriptions, I find the following helpful (particularly when combined, but otherwise in this order): Oleamide (a natural endocannabinoid), L-Theanine, Magnesium Calm (a highly bioavailable hydratable drinking powder) and Ashwagandha (a powerful Ayurvedic herbal extract).

I know it’s not for everyone but I find zyprexa to help give me a great nights sleep.
