What do you guys use for sleep?

I have a lot of trouble sleeping at times. My doc prescribes me 50 mg of seroquel as a prn to put me to sleep. It works well, better than any sleep aid I’ve tried, but I feel really unwell in the morning after I take it, especially if it’s taken with other APs.

Does anyone have anything they use that might be just as effective that I can ask my doc about? Preferably a non-AP, benzos are a no-no as well. Thanks in advance

I stick in head phones and lie on my side close my eyes
Whatever I can not sleep about
If i can’t sleep because im worried about something and could spend all night googling it I play it on a youtube video get comfortable with closed eyes and I’m asleep ten seconds later
I’m a blue screen addict
I seem go use it to get to sleep now instead of a reason to obsessively google or watch things on catchup

CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that L-theanine is effective in ameliorating positive symptoms and sleep quality in schizophrenia.

PS. I was gonna make another thread but I guess I’ll just combine it into this. For some reason I can’t handle a lot of APs even at low dosages. The side effects were eventually excruciating for almost everything I’ve tried since my episode; abilify, risperdone, latuda, seroquel. I’m really trying to sort out my meds, I can only see my new pdoc every so often Bc he’s expensive. Does anyone else have a problem with tolerating APs, was your problem solved? Are some APs more tolerable at high doses? Thanks again

How much coffee and tea are you drinking? Any coke or caffeinated soda?

Caffeine is a drug that causes sleeplessness.

Cut it all out and see how you feel.

I have l theanine! I felt pretty good at the time I was taking it, not 100% sure it was bc of the theanine but it’s definitely a nice supplement. What dosage do you use for sleep though? I feel like it might not be powerful enough to knock me out. I also take a small dosage of a amphetamine in the morning which might be part of my difficulty sleeping

I take Doxepin for sleep. It helps, but it makes me sleep a long time now that it’s built up in my system. It’s a tricyclic antidepressant.

I take just plain old Benedryl for sleep and it works fine,

Has for years.

 Yeah that just ‘might’ be the cause

400mg before bed should be enough.

I usually try to keep it to one cup of coffee in the morning, never after 12 or 1, I don’t drink soda. Sometimes when I can’t sleep, my brain feels wired. Part of the problem is definitely the stimulant I take in the morning, but I’m extremely reluctant to give that up bc it helps me so much w school.

I have vistaril, but again when I take it with other medications there’s an interaction and it’s difficult to tolerate. Sometimes it’s not powerful enough either. Do you mind if I ask what med you take it with?

Back in the day when I took speed recreationally, I knew I wouldn’t be getting to sleep that night.

I take Lunesta. Works great.

That kinda reminds me of when I used vyvanse which is a little longer acting than what I use now, I always had a really hard time getting to sleep, it was terrible. I think it may be helpful if I ask my doc for a shorter acting stimulant. Thanks for the idea!

Im glad you like it, I’m gonna look into lunesta. You don’t have any side effects or interactions with other meds? Is it addictive to you?

Don’t you want to be slow, lethargic and dull from the aps, like the rest of us?

amphetamine will pick you up, but it is addictive.

Can’t sleep then take a downer.

It sounds to me like a slippery slope indeed.

Be careful…

Yea idk. I have a love hate relationship with the stims, they help me do more work but sometimes I feel like I’m falling apart at the seams when I can’t sleep, psychosis wise I might fair better without them. My doc really doesn’t like it but I had a pretty nice improvement in functioning after I restarted it. It’s kind of a conundrum

No side effects. I take it once every night and won’t give it up. If that’s addictive maybe so.
