What is it like to have sz, with being being older?
I will tell you in 30 years!
I know @PinCushion is in her 70s. Maybe she can jump in.
Hi @Jake
I am 57 years old and although my positives are basically under control, my negatives are still prevalent.
Hey @Jake. I’m 62 years old. I guess the big thing with me is acceptance of my condition and the fact I’ll be on meds the rest of my life. My psychiatrist may have to change my AP again, even though I really don’t want to. I just don’t want to go through having symptoms again like I did when I switched to Abilify.
In short maybe I should say I’m at peace with myself.
I think I have learned to accept help from others as I have grown older and needier. I was too proud as a younger person and tried too hard to be independent.
How old are you @Jake
My second pdoc at the mental health facility back in 2004 told me something about age and schizophrenia. She said when men hit their 40’s it tends to mellow out and when women hit their 40’s it tends to get worse. That isn’t a guarantee that it will get better/worse but just a trend.
I’m in my 40s now (43) and I think mine has mellowed out. I’m on a lower dose of a weaker antipsychotic medication than I used to be and am doing pretty good. I’m also on less medication overall than I used to be.
I’m female and sza. I’d say that the bipolar part of my illness was worse when I was young. Then, in my mid 40’s, the bipolar part of my illness practically disappeared and the sz part got much worse until my mid 50’s when I was placed on a good med regimen.
Schizophrenia + more physical problems.
I am 64 years old and am looking forward to asking God, Explain yourself.
