It gets better when you're older

Ok I’ve been posting here since 1995 when I was what 27? One thing that kept me going all these years is that i heard it gets better when you’re older from reading a lot.

That is true so you can keep that hope alive.

And I remember Brian Cheeko.

That this whole thing was started.

No it doesn’t.

It just gets worse and worse and worse.

i agree it gets better or at least at his for me. I have had schizophrenia since 1997 and after learning how to live with this disease for the last 20 years i have finally found that doing things such as staying off drugs and alcohol and staying on medication schizophrenia is manageable.

@katwomansz

I’m older than you are and I agree.

Maybe you can clear something up for me: You said that you’ve been posting on this website since 1995, but you have a join date in 2014. How is that possible?

There was new software installed and I think all the old stuff was lost forever.

Ask sz admin.
Maybe this place was started 1996.
Now I don’t see it any more.

True story. At least in my case.

It has gotten better for me too. Sometimes I think I’ve just made an accommodation to the disease by limiting my life, but then again I see some of the others may do as well while engaged with raising a family. As a generalization it seems to have some truth to it.

It’s still there, but it gets easier to manage because so much becomes routine. One good thing about getting old. Sz gets old too?

My case was pretty severe in 1980 when I was 19. It was VERY disabling.
The 1980’s were spent in hospitals, group homes, psyche wards, semi-independent living. But when I got in my mid to late forties my symptoms became much less intense. Some symptoms subsided or went away.

Now, I’m 56 and I am fairly content and even happy sometimes. My schizophrenia has not disappeared, I still go through some absolutely miserable, crazy times but it almost seems to balance out between misery and happiness. My most cherished possession is peace of mind. Sometimes in the day I will be sitting in a chair or my bed and everything is quiet and everything slows down and I experience peace. I can’t force myself to feel this way but it happens often enough and I have been craving peace of mind most of my life.

I’m 56 but I still enjoy little bonuses like this. I wish it happened sooner but it is still sweet to enjoy it at my age.

It’s true!!! It does get better when you get older. For women, it’s after menopause. For men, it’s after age 50. It seems like a long time to wait, but, it gets so much better that it will seem worth it. It’ll seem heavenly.

It usually gets better with age, that’s what the stats show, but it depends on every individual.
For me it’s progressing and my Negative Symptoms and cognitive functioning has worsened.
