Piano. I only took lessons for a few months, but the piano is the only instrument I took an interest in.

I would have loved piano since I love piano concertos but I found stringed instruments. I got my first guitar in 1985 with a small inheritance. My mom offered to get me lessons and I said no. I had a book of Bowie songs and I learned a few chords. In 1986 I bought a guitar book on reading music by a guy named Frederick Noad. I learned how to read in the key of C and G and began to play simple classical guitar pieces. Over the next three decades I was to breakup with her and go back over and over. The last time we got back together was four years ago. A couple of years ago I got honest with myself that I wanted to play popular music. So I started learning the blues. I’m still building my foundation with the blues using the book I bought. I bought other books but the gates are shut until I learn the first book thoroughly.

One day this year I got the notion to play mandolin and it is now my main squeeze. But that is another tale.

I like playing saxophone, but it’s a loud instrument so I have not played it much since after I was in a band. I feel I might bother the neighbours if I play it. Especially now that I am rusty. So I’ve mostly been playing guitar instead which also is a nice instrument. I sing along when I play guitar. I think I like to use my lungs for music. Either singing or playing horn.

I love love love my 12 string guitar…take it to family gatherings and semi annual bluegrass parties at my house…fun. soothing…my guitar is like another woman in the house, can’t keep my hands off of it.
