What is the difference?

I’m curious for a friend of mine. What is the difference between schizoaffective disorder depressive type and major depressive disorder with psychosis? They are wanting to know as I am schizoaffective and they are the other one. They seem very similar.

I have schizophrenia and depression. It’s the same as schizoaffective depressive type

Do you know if major depressive disorder with psychosis is similar too? It seems like it is.

Psychotic depression is not the same. It means psychosis only when depressive

it seems sometimes they all overlap.

I know I have pd. sz., but I show mania signs sometimes,
will clean the whole house in one day, top to bottom,
on non-stop dancing/working out, every day for awhile
for hours.

hope you get the right diagnosis. it can take time for some.

With schizoaffective depressive type you become psychotic with or without a depressive episode.

With psychotic depression you become psychotic when experiencing depression only.

Such a fine line.

The “right” diagnosis is whatever diagnosis a qualified psychiatrist gives you. It’s not the patients job or place to decide beforehand their own diagnosis and then go doctor hopping.

yeah, I know.

did I say something to the contrary?

No, you didn’t.

The “right” diagnosis comes from a COMPETENT psychiatrist. And it’s perfectly fine to change doctors.

If I hadn’t, I still be under the “care” of a pdoc that didn’t want to give me APs, just take me off my birth control and pain killers to “see how I did”.

I suppose it depends on what mood you are in when you see the pdoC. Ive lost count of the amount of names ive been diagnosed with. The art of a good pdoC is reading people. Thats about as far as the science goes

the other catch is, it’s known that people who may be having issues, typically say, I’m fine, like to draw something positive, or not be a burden, or masking it.

I mean, I sort of did that  I got tired of being told I was BPD, when that obviously wasn’t what was going on. It took me awhile to find a pdoc that didn’t think that I was faking symptoms for attention and actually put me on an AP

It depends how deep down the rabbit hole you are. If you are full blown psychotic and completely lost its easy to diagnose. Most of people with SZ normally become really good at hiding things though !

yeah, but for Everyone, though. When a person asks you, could be anywhere you go, How ya doing? Most people respond with, Good.

Weird because I got diagnosed with psychosis even though I’m sure I have BPD

I mean, I’m sure it’s possible to have both?

Yeah but they ignored my suspicions of bpd entirely
