So my original diagnosis is depression with psychotic features but the new doc said it may be schizoaffective instead but he wasn’t sure. The only difference? One is depression with psychosis on the side and the other is psychosis with depression the side! Which is the main feature I wonder? Who can say.

Maybe the first ailment causes the second…so originally your depression was severe enough to cause psychosis…but now your sz is causing your depression…maybe i dont know…i have a weird one too…sz with a side of d.i d…
They’re nonsense. Dxed with schizophrenia by three doctors, dxed with bipolar by one doctor, dxed with schizoaffective bipolar by my pdoc. Nobody seems to know what I am! Everyone has their own opinion, truth is relative.

I still hold with what one psychiatrist said to me. He said of all the schizophrenics, paranoid schizophrenics make the best athletes.

In the public hospitals it was always schizophrenia…at the nice private hospital with top notch doctors it was schizoaffective…I see him for outpatient still and he’s a great doctor so I take his word as schizoaffective for me

I’ve only been to my current doc (barely escaped hospitalization), but as of now it’s sz and mood disorder NOS, but maybe a different doc would call that sza, idk.
I’m the same, I’ve made deals with doctors to keep me out of hospital.
I’m diagnosed with schizophrenia and currently also suffering depression.
It’s just a name @Anna, the treatment won’t change much if at all.

I show signs of schizoaffective but I am dx paranoid scz.
I never showed signs before ■■■■■■■ Xanax entered my life. That’s a whole lecture on how that ■■■■ can have a yo-yo effect on your mood.
I would say worry about getting treatment for symptoms and don’t worry about LABELS. It’s not like finding a Latin genus and specific epithet is gonna make it go away- the beast will not stop unless shot with tranquillizers. Who cares if it is a lion or tiger or bear. Is it big? Is it gonna kill you? Shoot it with this strength tranquilizer.

That’s weird because schizoaffective is literally schizophrenia with a mood disorder. So I don’t understand why they’d call you schizophrenic with a mood disorder and not schizoaffective o.o

I know, I never cared much for what my diagnosis was, I just found it amusing.

The thing that gets me is that I’ve never discussed any mood issues, that I’m aware of, so I’m not even sure where that came from.
