Does it actually help with anxiety??
I am switching doctors and have recently run into it and was trying to figure out if it is worth trying.
I was on it. It helped a bit. It can make people hypomanic though. As a result it is increasingly becoming a drug of abuse.
It absolutely helps me with my anxiety, but like @anon94176359 said, it has potential to become addictive. It’s said to be a much lower potential than benzos though. If you have it PRN, try to take as little as you can, because I built up a tolerance pretty quickly the first time I was on it. It makes me hypersexual, which is okay now that I’m married, but before that, it led me to make some pretty questionable life choices.
If I’m having a panic attack, and I take a gabapentin, it calms me down just enough that I’m able to remember my other coping skills. It stops me from shaking uncontrollably and hyperventilating. If you take too much, it can make you high, so be careful until you know how it affects you. I know if I have to take more than 100 mg, I can’t drive for the next 5-8 hours.
Every drug works differently for every person, so your experience will probably be different than mine.
Thanks for the replies.
If i do decide to try it, it sounds like i should probably only take it as a prn. Thanks for the heads up.
