Anyone have a success story of trying Gabapentin for anxiety?

I couldn’t note any help from gabapentin. I took it for a month. Is it not helping you?

I’m not on it. Im thinking of asking for it tomorrow during my doctors appointment. Ive read it can be used Off-Label for anxiety.

It calmed me down from having a episode at 600mg which is not a high dose for this med. It did the job and I recovered. That was two months ago, no problems since.

Tried it for severe anxiety. Did not work unfortunately.

I did notice however that I was no longer scared of heights when taking it.

I am in pregabalin (the sister molecule of gabapentin). Pregabalin is licensed for anxiety. I think it certainly helped to begin with. I am not on a big dose.

But pregabalin piles on the weight in me. Heard others say this too. Can speak for gabapentin

My first experience with gabapentin was to treat an unknown vomiting issue. It didn’t help much there, and made me manic. I discontinued.

My second time, I had already fixed the vomiting issue, but was prescribed it off label for panic attacks. It helped a ton, but if I took it at night, it made me too wired to go to sleep. I liked it, and my doc put me on it every morning. I eventually came off it because of… Let me find my old thread and get back to you on that. Maybe it was side effects? Maybe I just was on one of my “I can cure myself through willpower” kicks that I was so fond of early on. Either way, no mania issues this time around, but I did feel a bit loopy when I was taking it PRN.

My third time, my OCD intrusive thoughts had gotten severe, and were causing me daily distress. Mr. Star told me to go back on it, so I did. I have been on it ever since. When my brain tumor issues began causing my pain issues, my neurologist raised the dosage from an anxiety-relief dose to a nerve pain dose. I currently take 300 mg 3/day, so 900 mg/day total.

Just looked back at my log. When I quit it before, it was because I had gained a lot of weight. But then I went back on it because of the intrusive thoughts. My weight gain turned out to be unrelated anyways. I had a fibroid measuring 11c in diameter. Finally got that removed in May, and I’ve been dropping weight pretty steadily ever since.

Apparently one of the common side effects is becoming a moderator, jk
