Just curious and hoping to get reinspired to read and imagine. It would be cool to hear what others connect with both now and when they were younger.
When I was younger I really liked the Eragon series and Dragonlance/D&D novels. I really liked fantasy settings and wanted to write my own fantasy world (still do). Now my favorite fictional series of books is the Enders Game series especially because I love how the author writes the characters and I connect with the characters a lot. I read a lot of nonfiction now though, too, mostly philosophy books since its what I’m studying.
As a kid, I read/listened to the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan; I was huge in those books.
As a teenager, I read adult books a lot, such as Tom Clancy, John Grisham, Clive Cussler, and a few others that dealt with the technothriller genre. John Grisham is still my favorite modern day fiction author. I read every legal thriller he puts out.
I struggled to read and stay focused on books when i was younger. But as an adult i have read quite a few fiction and non fiction books. I love old school fystopian novels like george orwells 1984 or aldous huxleys brave new world. I also like fantasy. But id say my fave genre would have to be historical, religious or political non fiction. Also love reading about ww2 history a lot. Books like the gulag archipelago or mans search for meaning are excellent. Last but not least i like to get into some slef help and inspirational stuff here and there too.
There was a really silly kids book called “The day my butt went psycho” that I read when I was little. I’ve never enjoyed a book as much as I did that one. As an adult the Dark Tower series was a lot of fun. There was also a random meditation instructional book I found at an Ed Mckay’s that was incredible. It had a really forgettable name and I lost it. Really wish I could remember the title.
I was a WW2 history nut at one point and definitely am more into the religious nonfic too nowadays. It seems like you read really widely and a lot of interesting stuff
Would have to be Lord of the Rings which I read when I was 11 or so and Catch 22 which is by far my favourite modern novel. Catch 22 is one of the few books where I laugh out loud even rereading and is so wise in it’s satirical outlook.
I forgot how monumental LOTR is, I think it was one of the first books I read as a kid. I read the Silmarillion the summer before last and want to reread it again soon.
Yeah Silmarillion is quality even though it wasn’t finished. So bleak but such a great bit of storytelling. If you grew up on fantasy and science fiction it’s hard to avoid.
I really enjoyed the dinosaur lords series and im currently reading a book called the half drowned king its a viking book and i love it almost finished with it then on to the second book in the series
When I was a young kid, I fell in love with “Wuthering Heights”.
My favourite recent books, are maybe “Monsieur Linh and his child”. By Claudel. It is about an old male refuge who comes to a new country, caring for a baby girl, and befriending someone there. It is touching and has a creative twist.
And “In Lucia’s eyes”, by Japin, which I read in the original language (Dutch) quite a while back. It’s written from the perspective of the first love of Casanova. It is maybe about love, and scars on the outside and inside that influence one’s capability to find it. In Dutch, I liked his writing style.
I think I have always loved emotionally intense characters or books.
I saw a video on Immanuel Kant and thought I’d really like to read him because it I get insight into how the mind works I’ll be more secure about keeping my mind.
I didn’t read as a kid but a few books. I regret that. My favorite author of all time is: Robert Silverberg!!!
