What is a non-stimulant adhd medicine?

What meds do you take and does it work?

i dont have ADHD i suffer from cognitive impairment related to schizophrenia.i take atomoxetine 10mg in the morning and it helps. there is other drugs that are non stimulant like Guanfacine and Clonidine but i don’t try them l.

Im on 80mg a day of atomoxetine for adhd. I think it helps a bit. Its completely different to stimulants though.

Maybe DMAE. It used to be a adhd drug back in the 70’s and 80’s. But they don’t use it anymore as newer drugs got developed.

But DMAE is still sold as a supplement.

I think I tried Strattera before. I didn’t notice much. I don’t really remember.

I believe they gave me one pill of Adderall while inpatient and I had a bad reaction. I still am affected by it. That was years ago. I think I developed new symptoms.

Most doctors won’t prescribe me a stimulant med because of my schizophrenia. I wanted to try it because I had cognitive issues and negative symptoms. I thought it would help me study and stuff.

I was going to see a neuropsychologist or w/e for testing for ADHD but couldn’t quit energy drinks so I stopped looking into it. I gave up.

I got diagnosed with Asperger’s before and had problems focusing and problems with motivation and planning and organizing my thoughts. I read Asperger’s and add overlap.

I don’t think I have Asperger’s because I never had many problems until I developed schizoaffective disorder. I was told I had it, didn’t have it, and I might have both. It doesn’t matter. It’s not the main issue I have. I don’t think my parents believe or accept it. I believed it for a while.

The add pills increase dopamine and stuff, while APs decrease it. It’s contradictive. Schizophrenics have problems with dopamine so the last thing we need is more dopamine.

Can you mix adhd meds with antipsychotic and SSRI?

@keylow depends on the psychiatrist. Some will and some wont prescibe both ap meds and adhd meds. But it makes it far less likely youll find one to prescribe adhd meds on top if you have sz/sza. Even less likely if youve ever had a history of substance use or addictions. Lots of people develope drug addictions from being prescibed stimulants even if never had issues with substances before. And like another comment on here, the ap meds reduce dopamine and adhd stimulants increase dopamine. As high levels of dopamine is believed to be a major factor in psychosis and sz/sza.
Im prescribed non-stimulant adhd meds along with abilify. They help a bit but nothing like stimulants. Hope something i said helped out.
