I was just wondering, as it says not to drink alcohol in the olanzapine (zyprexa) box.
I’ve been told 2 different things:
You get more sedated.
It flushes the Ap out of your system.
What’s the truth?

The internet says
Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of OLANZapine such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with OLANZapine.
Does it flush it out as well?
Sounds like it just interacts with it in a negative way. But I’m not sure. But you probably don’t want to
experience impairment in thinking and judgment.
I’m just curious as a feel different in a good way after the occasional drink!
But I know it’s a crutch I don’t need!
Whatever you do don’t drink booze while taking your Zyprexa dose (at the same time)
It’s best not to drink alcohol while you are on Zyprexa period.
No one has convinced me and I’ve been on it over 5 yrs this time round.
i took olanzapine for about 2 months but i didnt drink. Olanzapine can help you to be fat if you wish this thing, and it didnt work on me
My doctors and therapists have never told me to quit drinking because of Zyprexa. I think it’s fine as long as you drink in moderation.
I was under weight both times I was out on it!
The first time I put on 1 - 1.5st!
The second time I put on 5 - 6st, but with exercise I’m back down to 12st aprox 76kg.
JW, are there any antipsychotics that DONT say to avoid or limit alcohol on the bottle?? I take three medications that say avoid mixing with alcohol and I tell you i could get drank under the table by an 11 year old girl!!
Although it’s not as much as I get drunk easily, it changes the feeling and makes me really tired and sick easily. I got hungover off two beers last time I drank.
But I’m stable and only have to take a tablet each night.
I was posting more out of curiosity then considering a change in lifestyle.
Speaking from my experience in the pharmacy, generally that’s a minor interaction. It will make you more tired. That’s almost guaranteed. It might make you dizzy. But will it kill you? Very unlikely.
I would not recommend doing this, I took 2 APs at the same time once and I nearly screamed in agony, it’s hard to describe but I was in alot of pain mentally.
Yeah, mixing APs is actually much more dangerous than drinking with one. Mixing APs can cause all kinds of real problems, depending on which meds they are.
I drink on zyprexa but I only have a couple drinks, I don’t like getting drunk while on it. Also I never drink at the same time as I take the zyprexa as it makes you too sedated. I take the zyprexa at night after the alcohol is out of my system.
I am on it currently. I hit the bottle pretty hard once over the summer and for some dumb reason still look my meds. The next 5 days were extreme, and I mean extreme deeper depression and vicious anxiety. But that was just me.
You get an erection lasting for four hours or more?
It doesn’t effect anything. I drink all the time on it. Im unhappy and depressed all the time but its the only thing to keep the pain in my chest at bay. So more malt liquor and stouts for me lol. Believe me i hate drinking but like i said it keeps the emotional pains that feel physical in my chest numb.
Don’t drink is my advice. It doesnt get u anywhere. Except more pain. Im just stuck in the cycle with no way out thats y i still do it. Drugs and alcohol r no way to deal with life and im a hypocrite for saying that but it doesn’t make it untrue.
I thought about sniffing some heroin this week to numb the emotional pain. But I’ve come a long way and I don’t needs other setback. Who knows what they put in that ■■■■ either?
