the difference with Windows XP and Windows 11 is that on XP, you have to download the malware first. on 11, it’s already there!

This is because Windows maintained backwards compatibility with older software that needed direct access to core parts of Windows and direct access to hardware. Bbusinesses were too cheap to update their software and demanded this, which caused huge problems. With Windows 7 forward they changed the security model completely. It broke a crap tonne of old software (I think this is awesome) because it closed most of the worst security holes that anyone and their dog could exploit. The new Windows is a fairly hardened OS. Not as hardened as UNIX or Linux, but a lot better.
I remember when I had windows( don’t remember which version, but not before xp) and they stopped making security updates for it. I got malware almost instantly.
They will stop making security updates for windows 10 the fall of 2025. I plan to buy a new desktop next year anyway though.
They’ll get pressured into extending it. In any case my systems for Squirrel FM run Windows 7 without issue.
