What do you think about Risperdal?

I take 4 msg of Risperdal a day and seem to be doing fine with it. I experience sexual side effects but they are not a problem for me. I’ve lost some weight taking Risperdal so I’m happy with it.

Great. good for you! I have tried Risperdal when I first hospitalized. It made me emotionally unrest. These is something unwell with my heart. Need to change med. The nurse told me if one can endure Risperdal, it is a very good med.

I’m on 2 mg of risperdal ( the highest dose I’ve been on) and I have no motivation and have gained a lot of weight. It works well for positive symptoms.

Is it possible to work on risperdal or go to school? How can someone be high functioning on risperdal? It seems to destroy my will power.

You can check the older messages - lots of discussions about Risperdal:

Risperdal caused me to hallucinate more and it was scary and I could not sleep. Now on abilify which makes me at ease and less hallucinations and I sleep well now…

I tried risperidone three times. The first time it worked but my pdoc switched me to fanapt since i could get it free through the clinic. The second time another pdoc put me on risperidone 8mgs. The hallucinations stopped but i slept all day. A third pdoc put me on a low dose of risperidone, but it didn’t work anymore. i was hallucinating, jittery and suicidal. Finally moved and found a clinic that didn’t try risperidone as the first med put me instead on latuda.

Haha thats funny, I used to be 105 and now im 135. Gained 35 pounds on it. Sucks.

i gained 40 lbs on risperidone (risperdal, zofredal). i skip breakfast sometimes and i will try to exercise… i’m aiming to lose 10 lbs. i’m tapering off… instead of taking two tablets i take only a quarter… my paranoia is completely gone but i still have hallucinations but they’re no longer command or commentary so they’re safe.

Risperdal and Clozaril are the Gold Standard APs out of the Atypicals.

Risperdal is usually very effective against the positive symptoms.

I have not experienced Delusions or Hallucinations in about 7 years or more.

Yeah its got side effects, but what med doesnt.

Risperdal didn’t do much for me. It slowed my thoughts down significantly and exacerbated my negative symptoms. I could get an erection but my libido was really messed up. I started having sexual feelings toward random people. Other than that risperdal accentuated my cognitive impairment and worsened my anhedonia. It did nothing for my audio hallucinations and they continued to break through while I was on it.

To be completely fair, I have heard alot of stories about risperdal being a miracle worker. I just have to conclude that the drug works well for some and not as well for others,
