Can they appear in dreams? How would i know its not just a weird dream?
I have dreams about things I usually don’t think about like places I used to live.
The dream i had would have been a traumatic memory if it is a memory
I have traumatic memories. Some of them people say didn’t happen.
We can rewrite our history and repress the truth. I know, I have done it several times. I figured it out.
Ive been an emotional wreck since that dream. I feel completely not ready to think about it
I’m not aware of any in my case - they may still be repressed.
I was in a bicycle accident when I was in the 3rd grade with a fractured skull and concussion. Still to this day can’t remember what happened, if it was a hit and run, or I just fell off my bike. I find the last one hard to believe as I was a really good bike rider.
I do believe in repressed memories, at least repressing some of the gory details.
I don’t have much advice, other than to consult a professional if possible. But I will encourage you to journal it out while it’s still fresh. Sometimes getting it out helps, and helps you finish the memory so you’re not as immediately traumatized by it.
I hope you feel better soon. I know how difficult PTSD and flashbacks are. I just had a bad one yesterday, but I also feel a sense of relief that it’s released now and not pent up. Trying to push mine down only prolongs my misery. I like to get it out, it hurts for less time and intensity.
The thing is i know if i let it out ill go way off the deep end. Ever since the dream ive been getting phantom sensations related to the dream and its reqlly freaking me out but ive been trying to just ignore it and go about my day but im very tense
I had a memory of something that happened to me when I was four resurface when I was 17. I think repressing memories is just one way of coping with threatening memories. Some memories are so bad they can’t be repressed. It did help me to treat myself a little better, though.
