Can’t sleep on my meds

Have tried so many meds. they treat the symptoms but keep my sleep messed up. And if I go off then I sleep but I get weird and dysfunctional. It’s a catch 22 that I’m so tired of.

There’s some evidence that the supplement L-theanine can help improve sleep in people with schizophrenia. I use it.

that sounds very hard, Manimal,

i hope you can find some sort of resolve to your problem

this place is pretty good to chat about it, welcome to the forum

I have used L Theanine in the past but it doesn’t sedate my mind enough to get rid of the constant dreams. Even if I do sleep I’m dreaming lucidly. To the point of feeling like I’m not sleeping. I need a Xanax script or opiates to turn my head off but no sane doctor would write that…

Have you ever tried eating before taking your meds?

Yeah I’ve done that type of thing. Sometimes kava works and CBD but that’s expensive

what meds do you take and when do you take them?

1500mg lithium 10mg zyprexa. 900morning 600 at night for the lithium and 10mg at night for zyprexa. The thing is every med I’ve tried has f’d my sleep up. Ability, risperdone, geodone, seroquil, all make me dream the entire night long without failure. Ability I went 2 weeks without a wink of sleep.

I suffer from bad insomnia no matter what. My doctor has tried me on just about every sleep med in existence and none work for more than a few days at a time.

Acupuncture actually helped me out a lot. It sounds scary, but it did help me. Depending on your insurance provider, it may be covered. I know my sessions are covered at 50%

Actually I just had a conversation about doing acupuncture for my back I will definitely give it a go. Thanks for that.

For me, the effect is instantaneous, and it lasts about two weeks.

I’ve done it once before and it works, I will have to see about doing it more frequently unfortunately the really good place to go doesn’t take insurance.

That is a bummer. I’m lucky enough that my best friend’s husband is an acupuncturist. He offers me free acupuncture in exchange for free childcare.

Yeah 120 a session makes it difficult to afford I think there is a cheaper place nearby that I will check out tomorrow.

Acupuncturists tend to know each other. You could ask them if any take your insurance or offer payment on a sliding scale. They could recommend someone.
