What did your parents want you to be?

My mom wanted me to drop out of college and go to a trade school. She convinced me to try beauty school. I dropped out and went back to college.

My parents supported MY dream of becoming a doctor. When i was hospitalized a couple of months after graduating high school, they fought for me to get the best care and support for years. When i went back to school for clinical dietetics, they believed in me. School was fine, but once i got in the workplace i fell apart. Now, i am unemployed on disability. My parents support my advocacy and volunteer work. They are proud that i try to help others and make the world a better place. They are not disappointed that I’m not what i wanted to be, they just want me to be happy and do what i can to stay healthy.

My parents just said to get an education. But no talks about career stuff that I recall. So i said if i wasnt a pro snowboarder by age 20 id go to college. Then i dropped out halfway through the 1st semester when i learned about entrepreneurship as it was one of my 1st classes and started a small business instead.

My dad wanted me to get any job and be independent. Probably a blue collar job like a plumber or something. He didn’t want me to go to college. My mom and step-father were more encouraging.

I ended up studying math but dropped out due to schizophrenia. That was 13-14 years ago. I haven’t done much since then.
