What can I do to avoid the voices?

I’ve been hearing voices since about two years ago and I wasn’t able to go to school because of it. I’ve tried to avoid the voices by taking meds, but it didn’t work. I can still hear the voices now. I like films, musicals and music. Sometimes they can make me feel better when I’m not well.

Tv and music with headphones work for me

That’s good. I tried to use headphones before, but they couldn’t avoid the voices.

If meds don’t work then you need to make friends with yourself. Voices are what you expect to hear, so if you don’t like yourself you are going to hear negative self talk or talk about you. The vice versa is also true.

If you have weird delusions that incorporate religious mumbo jumbo, or believe in alien stuff then you are likely to hear your beliefs aimed right at you. Change your beliefs then that too will alter the nature of the voices you hear.

It is about undoing all your previous conditioning, questioning yourself and your beliefs at source, and starting again, as if you knew nothing. Learn to love yourself and your whole world will change.

If you don’t believe me then here is the scientific proof that auditory voices are what you expect to hear:

CBT and train your brain to ignore them by for example doing 20 min meditation.

Thanks for the reply.

I like to use noise cancelation headphones… wear them the whole day, from waking up until going to bed. I do this to avoid noises, people chatting which give me reference delusions.

Cannot watch any news for long, because I get reference delusions, so it’s mostly quiet here. Reading a magazine also help.

What worked for me best is sleeping and napping.

I like to be up at night, because it is quiet.

I like to make art, then there are no voices for me.

avoid stress, avoid arguments: this helps to quiet my internal voices.

avoid gatherings with people, as they give me reference delusions.

set boundaries with people: you are ill, and there needs to be acceptance.

Good. I’ve always wanted to be an artist. Can I ask you what kind of art you make?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can help you deal with your voices so they are less troublesome to you. Ask for access to it.
