well I have a few bird feeders, but have been low on money this winter, so have only filled them up once this year. in the future I would like to buy more bird feed so I can watch them when im walking on my treadmill.
I think my favorite birds are the bluejays, the pigeons, and the little ones, I think they’re called finches but not sure. the majority of the birds I see are robins and cardinals, we have a lot of those. we also have hummingbirds in the summer. which are cool, they fly so fast.
we have egrets on the river and creeks, and also a lot of goose, they do poop a lot. mom chases them off the property with a broom lol. we get the occasional duck as well.
I like magpies, but we don’t have them here, we have crows here. Practically the same thing just not as precocious. I also, love owls, they are interesting, but you don’t get to watch them play the same as the magpies. But when you do get to see one it’s uber cool.
yeah we have some birds of prey as well. falcons, bald eagles, and a lot of turkey buzzards, as well as some ravens, which drive me crazy with the noises they make. and we do have owls, but I hardly see them. mom and dad had one get in their new house before it was finished.
and I forgot about the magpies, they are down by the river. edit, I got confused, we don’t have magpies but killdeer down by the river. another cool bird I like is the swallows I think their called, they fly so low to ground and maneuver through the air so well. when I worked on the golf course years ago, I would mow the greens and the swallows would swarm the mower where I had just mowed, I guess they were looking for bugs to eat.
I came from a birder’s paradise so right now I’m missing the birds. Modoc county was a birder’s destination. I would love to watch all the different birds and their different behaviors and listen to their different voices. It was one of my favorite things back home. I really miss that. Here in the city all I see is crows and they aren’t doing anything special except trying to find a tree.
cool. I have a friend who likes to identify the birds by the sounds they make. and my niece in college is into birding. she got into it with her boyfriend, she really likes it. it’s a great hobby.
I’ll just say that there isn’t a bird I don’t like. They make more sense to me than some of the people I have met. But if I had to pick one I’d say Big Bird from Sesame Street.
The Life of Birds documentary with David Attenborough is an excellent learning tool for even the backyard bird watcher. I’d highly recommend it. I may take a trip to this popular bog in Minnesota as I hear they have a great owl population. It’s called the Sax-Zim Bog in the Meadowlands, Minnesota.
Next year during the fall migration I plan to head to Hawk Ridge for the Bird of Prey counts. Sometimes they fly level with the hill. I’ve been there several times over the years. It’s a blast. They are usually banding as well.
My favourite bird is the hadeda ibis. They have a loud cry in flight, very noisy, but a nice noise. My phone ringtone is set on their call lol! They eat worms they dig out of the grass with their pointed beaks.
I also like seagulls. Their sound makes me think of holidays. And since I live by the sea it’s like a permanent holiday
And pigeons - they make me laugh with their head bobbing walk. Sooo cute and very intelligent!
