I read about topamax for antipsychotic weight gain. I want to ask my doctor about it but I have a feeling he’s going to say it causes psychosis like the other meds that cause weight loss.
No, it doesn’t cause psychosis. I take topamax off label as a mood stabilizer. It actually works fairly well, plus I lost a fair amount of weight while I’ve been on it. Though for the first month or two I had some cognitive side effects, but that’s the reason it has the nickname dope-amax.
How much weight did you lose?
I’ve hard of roughly a 1-2% weight loss in 2 months, continuing onwards.
When I started taking it without a diet change, around 15 pounds in 2 months. With a diet change I lost over 70 pounds in 4 months.
I was on it off label for headaches and it never helped with weight loss for me.
I took it for migraines, but it made my hands really shaky like I had Parkinson’s. I was extremely thin already at the time, so I didn’t notice any weight loss.
Topamax is synthetic cocaine in a pill form. Do not snort it or you will most definitely be psychotic.
