Fad diets are just that - fads. Come to the conclusion the way to lose weight is to eat less and exercise more.
Yeah @everhopeful I should have listened to you all along. Wasted a load of money on high protein food.
It’s not easy. I’ve been on a diet for 10 months now. I’ve lost 17kg=37lb. But it featured me falling off the wagon a few times. It didn’t go on overnight, so it’s not coming off overnight.
Download myfitnesspal, and start with 2500 calories a day. That’s easy, and will get you into the routine of calorie counting.
Once you’re into the swing of calorie counting, then you can start lowering the calories per day.
The problem with dieting is same as meds - not every one is right for everyone. You have to find the one that works for you. Mine was the original Atkins not the commercialized one. To do it you have to find a 70’s book on it because the Atkins website no longer list the original.
My tip is never go into town or food shopping hungry.
So always have breakfast before going into town, it’s worked and it’s help me drop from 15.75st to 12st!
I just consume nicotine candy all day and workout while hopped up on coffee first thing in the morning
I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you @Jimbob. Hopefully the next tactic works better.
which ap do you take. i have found that certain meds cause weight gain no matter what you do “right.” i was on zyprexa and in just 2 months i put on 30 lbs. !!!
i am a type 1 diabetic and cannot tolerate many carbs at all; i eat a high fat/high protein diet, and not only is it excellent for my diabetes, but i lost all the extra “padding.” i did it slowly though, so i had to be patient and continue on my way w/out giving up. i know it can be very very depressing when you don’t see success right away, but treat yourself w/ love and kindness and you should have a happy result. perhaps discuss your meds w/ you psych and see if switching can help you. there are plenty of great meds out now and plenty to choose from. hope this helps. keep up the good work. don’t give up till you feel better about yourself. thats the best place to be.

@Jimbob where are you man?
Hey power mouse.
Sorry I haven’t been around for a bit. just been catching up on admin etc.
How are you? Looking forward to the match tonight?
Yeah, really nervous
You’re cheering for Wales? I don’t mind if Wales wins
Hey daisy.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. Am on seroquel which kinda gives me an appetite - but I don’t think this accounts for all my weight. Reckon my metabolism is low. I don’t do any exercise though so I can’t blame it all on the meds.
Am just going to go on a low fat, no sugar diet and see how I get on.
Get really embarrassed by my weight. My local GP centre does special nurse clinics for folk on antipsychotics. They do your weight and blood pressure etc. Have not attended once cos I don’t want to know my weight.
Yeah gonna support Wales. Just hope it doesn’t go to penalties - always think that is a bad way to lose a match.
Me too. Lot’s of goals!
hi jimbob,
was on seroquel for a while but it didn’t help. also, while i was on it i kept fainting. not certain why, but once i went off the seroquel i felt fine. it didn’t increase my appetite, though. in fact, i don’t think it did much but make me a little sleepy. how many mg are you on?
600mg, also take a depot injection of depixol every 2 weeks
maybe the seraquel isn’t for you. does it help more than the side effects?
i don’t know what a depot injection is. would you explain it to me? is it another ap? does it help?
A depot is a liquid preparation of antipsychotic which is injected every couple of weeks or so. It is long acting so you don’t have to take meds orally daily. They use them often here in the uk.
also, i do know one thing about the clozerile; it is specifically designed for sp that don’t respond to other aps. once i started w/ it, w/in a month i began to feel its effects.
at first, while i was titrating up on my dosage, all i could do was sleep. i had an increased appetite then, but it went away fairly quickly. now theres none.
They say olanzapine and clozapine are the worst for weight gain.
