This morning as I turned the phone on (and still with no apps open) I heard a distinct musical note that sounded as if it came from a piano in need of tuning. 30 seconds later I heard a different note but presumably from the same instrument.
What on earth could have caused it? My earphones? Some app running in the background? Any clues are welcome.

Mine does that when it temporarily loses the signal. Poor reception?
No, the signal at my place is actually excellent. If not the phone it must have been tinnitus.
I think it’s because you are utterly insane. You should immediately get a high dose of antipsychotics, then the sound will stop. 
Does anyone see red eyes or black rings around the eyes on people they encounter?
