Weight: typical vs atypical antipsychotics

Just curious. From your experience or knowledge would you say the atypicals have a higher chance of causing weight gain or is it the typical antipsychotics? If so is it the meds increasing appetite or something metabolic?

Thanks

Atypical have caused me weight gain and a lot of it. Now that I’m on Haldol I’m losing weight.

Abilify makes you gain weight like crazy, also these nasty uncontrollable impulses

I’ve just recently been switched to 5mg of prolixin and also wanted to know anyone’s experiences with it and weight gain. I was on it previously but for a very short amount of time.

I took Prolixin. My weight stayed the same but I didn’t get any better on it at all.

What’s the difference between a typical and typical?

Typical are old aps. Atypical are newer 90s or later. Typical can have worse side effects I think.

The only typical I have been on is Haldol. it’s weight neutral for me as high as my current dose of 30 mg.

I have been on Zyprexa, Geodon, and Abilify and gained big weight on all three. With Zyprexa i think it’s because i was so hungry. With Geodon, I ate less overall but still gained weight. With Abilify I had no change in eating habits but gained major weight. When I came off the Abilify, the weight came off on its own, with no change in eating habits.
