Weight Loss Drug Experiences While on Antipsychotics

I know a few of you have been on weight loss medication. What have you been on? How much did you lose over what time frame?

What were the side effects? What other meds were you on with the weight loss meds?

I am going to the doctor next Friday and would like to know more before I go.

My doctor put me on Topamax. It was supposed to decrease my appetite, but it still felt the same to me. So I went off of it.

Topomax is the only one I’ve heard of. And I’ve never heard of anyone taking it for more than a year or so.

I take topamax as a mood stabilizer, it helps my appetite also, i don’t gain weight but I don’t lose easily. I tried phentermine but it didn’t work for me, I think I lost 6 pounds in a month and a half. It really didn’t change my appetite too much. My problem is I have no appetite all day, I can’t force myself to eat breakfast most days, or lunch usually and then I eat one meal with a ton of calories. My sister says that messes up my metabolism and I just store all the calories instead of burning any. Also I don’t exercise. But if you have a big appetite and that’s the problem the phentermine might help you. It didn’t react badly with any of my meds. It was quite mild actually. I didn’t get the jitters or anything, I didn’t feel any side effects at all.

I’m down 20 lbs from my peak

Ughh I think this med naltrexone causes weight loss to some

Contrave would probably be better though

The FDA approved weight loss drug incorporates naltrexone with bupropion. While bupropion decreases a person’s appetite and prevents depression, naltrexone curbs hunger, and food cravings. Naltrexone can also be used as a weight loss medication on its own.Jan 30, 2019

Naltrexone may help individuals stay sober from alcohol and/or opioids (each of which are linked to weight gain ). It may also change appetite, energy level, hormones, and satiety threshold after a meal. … A decrease in appetite means that users will likely consume less food and/or total calories per day.Apr 30, 2016

I hope I can get put on Phentermine or Lorcaserin but I will probably be doing the contrave combo although I will just see if the doctor will prescribe the naltrexone alone as I am already on bupropion.

Any more experiences?

My doctor put me on Topomax for migraines and weight loss. I still get migraines every day of my life and I gained weight and can’t seem to take it off. So, I decreased my Topomax by half.

I don’t like the sound of topamax side effects so I am gonna steer clear of it I think.
