One thing that ticks me off is the major thing with aggressive homeless people in my area is people saying they are dangerous because they have schizophrenia. I agree, a lot of them are aggressive, and I’ve been threatened and chased by them. I just hate how they focus on the schizophrenia though. I’m not homeless, have schizophrenia, and have never chased anybody or threatened to stab them.
Also every time a person shoots up a public place, people and a portion of the media blame it on mental illness. I keep saying you don’t have to be mentally ill to be a murderer, and you shouldn’t blame every single incident of gun violence on mental illness.
Schizophrenia is probably never going to get enough positive information in the public domain to change peoples perspective.
I always remember one of my aunts saying to me “Is that like ADHD?”
Peoples knowledge of this disease is shocking.
I made a post about this in a separate topic, but since I have been diagnosed with autism, I actually notice how healthcare workers treat me differently because of autism.
Well, the focus in this discussion are schizophrenics where majority of us are collecting SSDI or some sort of disability benefit. A normal working man would have an easier time supporting a woman on disability because men do earn higher incomes than women rather than the other way around.
I’m not sure how normal I am, but I live a mostly enjoyable life. I’ve ticked the wife, children, and career boxes. I participate in my local community as a volunteer. I do things I enjoy. And, yes, I have SZ.
Sexist much? Not that I’ve noticed. SZ is tough as nails for women, too. Maybe even tougher as women seem to have to bring twice as much awesome at work and elsewhere to get equivalent recognition to a male in many professions.
Right now in my home my wife makes more than I do. I originally made more than her, but had to change careers. I’m doing all right and we’re comfy.
Wow. Just wow. So glad I don’t know you in real life. You might want to set your time machine ahead at least half a century.
I had a young woman in college scold me for not opening the door for her when I was 6 feet ahead of her. I wish I had known what benevolent sexism was at the time, then I would have known what to say to her in response.
I love all women. It doesn’t matter their race religion dx or size. I’ll show them a good time. If you know what I mean. I’ll pay or not whatever they prefer. As long as I go up a base that means I’m making progress. One small step for man one giant step for a sz dx man on Sadi.
I opened the door for a young lady once and had her go off on me as a sexist. So I let go of the door and it smacked her in the schnozz whereupon she yelled at me for physically assaulting her. Pretty sure she was going to be mad at me no matter what I had done?
I figure that if you’re going through a door and there’s someone behind you, the polite thing is to hold it open and let them go through first. Doesn’t gender or colour doesn’t matter, it’s just good manners. No idea why people have to lose their ■■■■ over it.
Fighting over which gender suffers more is useless and won’t make your sz better in any way.
Some woman disrespect men and some men mistreat woman. Even if more man suffer from homelessness and schizophrenia, fighting over it is pointless.
Schizophrenia is tough for women as well though depending on what occupation a woman is working in, she will face different pressures than men will and view those pressures differently than men as well. The brains of men and women are vastly different, reproduction abilities are not the same as well as the ability to physically lift objects are very contrasted.
Well, glad to read that your wife makes more than you do.
The crazy thing is I actually judged the distance between myself and her and thought to myself, am I going to offend her by opening it and having her take it as a sign of flirtation, or am I so close to it that not doing so would be seen as rude? I guess I ended up making the wrong call.
I just hold the door for everybody now, makes it easier
I think they’re slightly different. Man excel in physical sports, if you look at top athletes its mostly men. Women with sz don’t take as much hit on the language abilities. Man excel in maths, just look at top mathematicians.
Athletes have nothing to do with brain structure and workings.
And men do excel in math, yet many women are passed over because they’re women. So of course the top mathematicians are male. But don’t forget it was women working in math that got man to the moon.
