To last us through December 28th. We had unexpected costs like appliances dying etc. I plan to go to the food banks. We have 4 mouths to feed and the cost of gas etc. Sucks!
Iām not familiar with food banks. What can you get there?
Cooked meal, cans of somethingā¦
Stale bread and expired sweets. Sometimes they have vegetables and fruit but itās the stuff no one else wanted. Sometimes cans of food. Very cheap frozen meat loaded with tons of fat. Thatās been my experience anyway. Iāve tried quite a few in my county. Itās never great. But itās food.
I donāt know about peanut butter, but I live on itā¦
I have peanut butter already luckily. I see pb sandwiches in my future
Thatās about what I have left. Looks like my sonās are going to have to do with just a little Christmas money
Sorry @Turtle44. Iām sure theyāll still be grateful
Whoa, I live in Delaware, USA, and the food banks we have here ROCK! The official āFood Bankā one is mostly cans (non-expired), but the local Church ones are really good! Typically weāll get 2 boxes and 4 bags full of goodness, some cans but also fresh tomatoes, grapes, potatoes, onions, apples, tangerines, meats, frozen of course but weāve gotten chicken quarters, pork chops, 3lb pkgs of ground beef, lamb, hot dogs etc, household items like paper towels, tp, pine cleaner, sometimes disinfectant, sometimes fun stuff like chips, cakes (!!), Doritos, bagged salads, just all manner of stuff, of course it changes every time but itās always good!! I feel bad that your local food banks arenāt stepping up, possibly church food outreaches a little further abroad? Best of luck in any case!
Ramen noodles, sandwich meat, rice(cooked already or not). ZmaGal donāt go hungry that pisses me off to see people going without food.
I donāt have access to a food bank in Belgium even though Iām on disability. You need to be ādirt poorā to get access here.
It sucks that you have so little money for the holidays. But if you have love in your heart youāll be fine. Good luck in making ends meet this month!
Maybe I should look for food banks that are farther away @iconoclast_01. Thatās a good idea. The one Iām going to this week is 30 minutes away but maybe there are others not too much farther. I just need to make sure I can afford the gas to get there
I wonāt go without food @roxanna. Iām going to go to every good bank in the area so my family can eat. Iāll buy rice, beans, bread, and oats.
I do. I love my family.
red beans and rice with a small ham would be eatableā¦donāt knowā¦not much helpā¦
Where I live you get lots of canned non-perishable goods, but itās not the best quality. Not so nice canned vegetables, occasionally canned fruit. Lots of people donate baked beans for some reason. Youāll also find weird things like escargot from when people clean out their pantry and get rid of stuff they canāt stand the thought of eating. Canned meat isnāt common. Pasta is pretty common. So is bread and peanut butter. Getting fresh vegetables and fruit is rare and theyāre the stuff that the grocery store canāt sell, but that is still edible. You might get hamburger or sausages, but no good cuts of meat. They try and give out hams and turkeys around Xmas.
They also put in things like toilet paper, dish soap, feminine hygiene stuff for the ladies, etc.
Thanks @shutterbug, sounds like fun (ironically)ā¦
Wishing you and your family good beautiful food .
I used to go to the pantry once a fortnight.
It cost $5 and you get some canned food, pasta , rice , old bread and vegetables and fruit the shop could nolonger sell.
It could be worth your while checking out a few different food banks.
Some are better than others.
Youāre lucky, Iāve had to use food banks here in my home state of Arkansas before and it always sucked and we have churches everywhere!
Well, if it were me I would drop 100 dollars on the frozen section at Dollar store ā maybe hoards of canned beans n fruit as well
Blehhhhhhh hope you make it work for you
Iām so sorry. This is an awful situation to be in. I hope you get a holiday miracle.
