Vitamins role in mental health

(Vitamins: How they Affect Your Mental Health and How they Can Help Manage Mental Health Issues)

Particulary lack of vitamin B12 stands out:

Vitamin B12 and mental health. Vitamin B12 is a key component in the formation of red blood cells. Its deficiency could lead to an oxygen-transport problem in the blood known as pernicious anemia. This disorder may cause issues like mood swings, paranoia, irritability, confusion, dementia, and hallucinations (or mania).

I just got my Vitamin B complex in the mail today. Trying to fix whatever deficiencies I may have.

Whats funny is i seem to have an adverse reaction to b12 and other b vitamins for some reason. I thought it was just a coincidence the first few times but it makes me anxious and paranoid more than before i start it. Usuallu after a few days or a week on them. I still wasnt sure if it was just a coincidence the first few times it happened but then a pharmacist told me that some people with psychotic disorders can get worse on b vitamins. She was the only health professional i know of that has confirmed it. All others ive talked to say its nonsense.

I think vitamins are important. It’s not “the cure” but part of the cure as general physical health supports brain health. Taking 100 vitamin c or niacin isn’t going to make SZ go away but taking a little every day is another piece of the puzzle. That combined with meds, therapy, exercise, spiritual health, etc etc

Been taking vitimans for years. And if your prone to a drink - you wanna be taking folic acid, cos the booze is relentless for stripping it out your body and you will get enlarged red blood cells (Macrocytosis).

Vitamins as with bodily functions are obviously necessary for functioning of brain.

They are also building blocks of neurochemicals.

Mentally ill people might have difficulty getting all required nutrients from food with way their bodies function.

Not to mention poverty generally dictates one’s diet be less nutritious rather than more nutritious.

It’s not just poverty. Some advocates are contemplating on name change of mental illnesses to metabolic brain disorders. Since there is dysfunction in metabolism itself.

I just realized earlier that I need 1000mg calcium daily and was only getting 600mg. Now I take an extra 333mg calcium pill. Costco has 600mg pills but they give me nausea.

They put folic acid in my med. tray every week. I’ve heard that the B vitamins are good for schizophrenia.

I take Centrum multivitamin, it has 100% of daily folic acid requirement.

Go easy on the calcium. Some professionals believe it clogs the arteries in supplement form. Better to get it through foods, like milk and cheese.

Taking vitamin k2 and d3 with calcium helps heart and bone health.

Vitamin k2 plays role in transporting calcium to right places like bone and cartilage. Away from soft tissues like heart and brain.
