Visiting a Zen center

Has anyone been to one, and what was your experience like?

I’m nervous about it, but not to the point where I’m backing out. I figure that Zen teachers are quite in touch with reality and might be able to help me out. I have psychotic depression and I’m getting rapidly better but have a long way to go.

Thanks.

David

I think there’s some evidence to suggest that meditation is bad for schizophrenics.

I have psychotic depression as a placeholder for Depersonalization. Yes, zen ppl know the inner recesses of the mind can be dangerous. I will go to one session and see how it goes.

People who don’t read these boards tend to be uneducated on this stuff. I went to my local mental health clinic and they had meditation group meanwhile most the population is sz and has no idea it’s bad

I think I’m going to an AA meeting tonight. They talk a lot about spirituality and I get creeped out by spirits. So BLAH!

Lots of atheists get sober at AA. I hope it works for you. It got me sober.

I’m sober. I just get scared of thought broadcasting.

I wanna hear all about this visit, okay?

I’ll tell u guys about it tonight. Going soon. I have to talk to the instructor about my stupid back and sit in a chair like a freak.

Not sure exactly what I’m nervous about. Just hoping that Buddhists will be a little less judgemental with the practice they put into that.
