Vinyl record sales increased by 9% in 2017

Best Buy is in the process of removing CDs from its stores and replacing them with vinyl records and turntables. And sales are brisk.

The first vinyl album I purchased was Don McLean’s American Pie (1971). Would I buy vinyl? Probably not.

How about you? Would you buy vinyl records?

I wish I kept all my old vinyl. After returning from overseas I got rid of a lot of stuff. I decided to declutter my life and give away possessions and just pack light. I still remember when vinyl dissapeared from the stores with cd’s coming in!

I miss records sometimes but don’t miss a lot of my possessions.

If I was really into music I probably would, but digital is good enough for me.

It’s kind of funny how things come in full circle.

I remember in the early 90’s everyone was raving about how great CD’s were, and how they were superior to cassettes and vinyl.

Personally I love music so much, I’ll take it on any format I can get. But I prefer CD’s and records.

When I do buy records they’re usually used though.

I just buy CDs as gifts. Probably unwanted gifts lol. For myself it’s mp3 all the way. I don’t like streaming and prefer to have mp3s to listen to offline.

We never had a record player growing up so I was never into vinyl. Just cassettes.

I don’t understand the resurgence of vinyl to be honest.

I love music from iTunes (modern digital), I always download my favourite songs from iTunes onto my phone. It’s just so easy and convenient. Digital is so clear and crisp, bubbly and smooth.

That said I love vinyl. I haven’t hit the decks in 15 years. But I just don’t have the room for it. I’ll stick with digital, but I still have much love for vinyl.

This is why I’ve never upgraded from wax cylinders.

Joking aside, most vinyls nowadays are sourced from a digital copy, making them the same as a CD. As long as FLAC formats are readily available, I’m alright with this. CDs are still superior to the MP3 format when audio quality is considered but FLAC is a lossless replacement.

I used to have hundreds of vinyl and cds.
Don’t know where they are now.
I use YouTube today.

Yes Vinyl. All the way. I’m 34 and I love them. IMFUO. They sound better. With digital compression you lose alot. Idk! The idea of physically doing a turntable or the sure difference with quality headphones. A beginning audiophile here.

YouTube is good for music but YouTube music is compressed. Best off downloading digital from iTunes and such.

I find vinyl is more aesthetically pleasing, the sound is fresh and crisp and has more meaning bc i am supporting the music industry and my favourite artists more,

Its more personal and it is a good hobby too as i go out and research music and discover new and interesting artists,

what i do is i look at the cover and the song titles i like then take photos of the album covers and look them up on youtube, if they are good enough i will decide if it is good enough to buy,

I don’t buy loads though just select ones, i have a good collection i think but i need to streamline it and hopefully swap some somehow

In America sales of vinyl may be going up bc of British exports as i think its more popular here in uk

I truly don’t miss vinyl. Having to buy it. Store it. Care for it.

Do I miss the tactile feel of dragging my thumb on the side of a platter to sync up beats? Yeah.

But not enough to go for a swim back in that cesspool.

Nope. Uh-uh.

It’s tangible and fun to read
