Vintage interview of a simple sz patient

Some time ago I have found this old educational interview of this cute patient, have slightly improved its audio and have uploaded it to youtube, she was diagnosed with simple schizophrenia even if she said that she hears voices all day.

Why do you think she was smiling sometimes? Did the voices say something fun, did she find fun something the doctor said or did she do it for no reason?

That was interesting.

Its sad that her family hasn’t been to visit in awhile,

And I’m not sure why she was smiling, it didn’t seem like a nervous thing.

Also, I think its cool that she plays the piano.

I can understand about the lack of ambition and plans for the future. Also to a lesser extent the issue re initiative.

I can not watch this. it is too sad for me

Why? She is very happy.

I am very much like that lady.
I wish I could be friends with her.

I feel the same,

She seems very likable.

She smiled to the loneliness question because she has voices she talks to. Atleast that’s what I guess

At 6:00 after saying that she doesn’t like magazines she smiled and then she said that her head ‘moves’ while she talks.
Did someone experience something similar?

I’m only guessing that her head moves down when she talks. I think it can be common to look down when your talking. I think you can notice her head being up and then moving down. She seems a little shy and withdrawn.

But personally I’m not like that, I think

She looks to me like an average introverted person, and she looks like she knows more than she let it out loud. Quite smart lady.
The introducer guy is really creepy though

I’ve been in situations like these and I was really struggling to just see myself from the outside without psychosis being an influence.

This video is perfect in that sense, because to everyone else… that is all we look like… and it’s really easy to see it from that perspective because of this film.

I think seeing it that way is one of the most healthy things a schizophrenic can learn to do… and probably a very fundamental thing in finding peace (and trust in it) when living with the illness.

Yeah sort of like a fascist… regarding how mentally ill used to be treated… even at the turn of the 50s… he’s actually being very nice to her.

I came to know that this is how normies see us… :frowning:
Luckily our subjective experience is often better, in fact she was happy.

if she hears voices then it’s not simple schizophrenia.

Apparently it was allowed to have some ‘accessory’ psychotic symptoms… These are all psychiatrists and she was in a mental hospital.

I kind of feel like a slight grin sometimes at inappropriate times. But since I think I have unusual sensitivity to how my facial muscles feel I think it’s not noticeable. I feel bad for this poor woman.

The guys description seems kind of mean, but I suppose he’s just being clinical.

wow he was also one of the first to use chlorpromazine for treating szs.

I am still on Chlorpromazine.
I think that lady would rather stay there than work in a chicken factory.

Of course, she even said that if she won the lottery she would give the money to the hospital so that they’ll keep her there.
