I find AI very useful as an assistant
It does not write good code
What it does do well at is saving time looking for solutions online to a bug or when something doesn’t work as expected
When my code is finished then I optimise it and AI does a great job at giving me recommendations on what packages might be better or even specific functions
That works well as I tell it what I am using and say to it something like give me three alternatives and explain the benefit in one sentence
Pocketing the savings in labour is short sighted as there is always things that need improvement or overhauling to bring them up to date
My husband went to school to program, but he ended up staying at his job. I guess that’s a good thing, at least when considering these numbers.
Wow, these numbers suck. It used to be a lucrative career. I’m taking an introductory programming course right now for free just so I can have a skill and learn something. I’m not qualified, but it looks like it would be impossible for me anyways. I was thinking of stocking shelves some day if I ever go back to work.
People with these skills are needed to evaluate the outputs of the genai
It’s no where near being a replacement
