Update on my new pup/photo

Poor baby is so young and small.
She’s having a hard time with training and potty training.

I’ve confined her to her pen and she stays in her crate for the most part, but I’ve begun her with a collar and leash.

I’ll occasionally take her outside in my front yard but she’s still a baby and doesn’t do much outside other than chew on the grass and twigs!

I took her to the Vet yesterday and they diagnosed her with Kennel Cough.

She’s very small for a lab.

She only weighs 9.7 pounds.

The average weight for a 10 week old lab is substantially more than this.
Around 15 pounds.

She must have been the runt of the litter.

She’s very gentle and sweet but is sick so maybe she’s not as responsive.

I hope to God she matures a bit more in a few weeks.

Because right now at this stage and with her condition she’s not responding to training that much.

Her focus is scattered.

Thanks @anon4362788!

I’m kind of concerned for her size.

She weighs 9.7 pounds at 10 weeks old.

Is this under the average weight for her age?

Depends on if she was the runt. Some pups start small and then catch up. As long as she is eating and drinking well, I wouldn’t worry.

Are runts harder to train?
And do they have increased risk of health issues?

She’s eating fine.

Example: we had a litter of German Shepherds. One was tiny, half the size of the others. He was so small! But by a year he was as big, if not bigger than his littermates.

I always love the “runt” of the litter. They always turn out special don’t they haha

I wouldn’t expect extreme health issues from a lab runt. They’re usually pretty healthy, even the runts. You run into issues a lot with small breeds.

There’s a chance for health issues with all dogs, even the non runts. My friend paid over $700 for a husky puppy only to find out it has severe hip dysplasia, as a baby!

Just make sure she is eating and keep an eye on her weight.
