Unlocking the key to my heart may be the answer

if i can unlock the key to my heart and outpour everything that i have inside me i think maybe then i can start to heal properly as a schizophrenic person on medication,

i am hoping that this could help in my recovery

since a very young age we are taught to not show our feelings as much, big boys dont cry they say and things like that, a lot of men see this as a sign of weakness and that is a problem because men cant release all of those feelings when they want to and that is maybe the cusp to mental illness.

I used to wonder about that, so I did a poll, and plenty of people here cry regularly.

I cry at the drop of a hat. Especially when I am very happy. Cry in movies a lot too. I try not to, but I can’t help it.

I agree with OP. We need to “ventilate our feelings” rather than suppressing them.

I haven’t cried in years - maybe it’s the meds - but I feel great despair.

thats exactly what i mean plumber, its not just about crying but expressing our true feelings to others, i think we hold back how we truly feel a lot of the time and this can be troublesome, like if there was a group of people who we could really trust to vent to properly then i think that would be a blessing.

its ok to cry though, i shed a tear when my dad died and i was in floods of tears once because things got on top of me, its better now because not all my feelings were suppressed like they were when i took Risperidal,

I always have this issue so I understand it the same way.
Not everyone can listen to us patiently and has empathy. It also take courage to express our feelings effectively. Yes, as you said, he or she has to be someone we trust and mature enough.

We need to change how society thinks of masculinity. Masculinity should be owning your feelings, not avoiding them. I’m not saying we should all cry over every small setback, but we should allow ourselves to have feelings and not be ashamed of them.
