Two jobs to choose between

I have took up a new job recently. The job is a receptionist. The employer and collegues are okay. The pay is low but the job is easy. I can handle well. Receive some praises.

I have got yet another job offer. The pay is like 1.6 times of the present job. There is more rest days. I’ll make powerpoint with the text and try out the moc exam papers to various trade tests.

The officer of the labour department encourages me to take up the latter job. She thinks the job experience would help me to open up better opportunities. Any ideas?

I don’t know you well enough to know what might be better for you, Sometimes a less stressfull job at a lower pay, might be better.

I think you will get bored eventually at your present job.

More opportunities sounds better.

Does the new job know about your sz? You can always go back to receptionist work if say you have less rest days eventually and it’s too much.

Good luck!

If you don’t mind me asking, how long have you work as receptionist, the new job?

Two weeks. Both job know about my sz. They have got referal from the disability service.

Reception is not easy for me. I commend you for being able to handle it well.

It sounds like “more rest days” is appealing. Are you good in MS PowerPoint?
My supervisor said this to me many years ago “You get paid to learn”. I still think it is good if you can learn new things from your job and apply them in the future.

Congratulations on getting two jobs! All your hard work is paying off!

If it was my choice, I would pick the job with more rest days. But it is all up to you.

It sounds like the second job is the better choice all around right? What reason would you have to keep the first?

The first job is easy. I know I can master the job already. They say I can expect job stability. The business is established and stable. The colleagues work there for almost 20 years. It’s low stress.

I used to make excellent slides with PowerPoint. I was trained to do a lot of PowerPoint presentations. Haven’t do that for many years now.

Putting all of the factors you mentioned aside, which job do you feel more passionate about?

Have you met co-workers at second job? Does the office “feel” more positive than the one you are currently in? Those would be two big factors for me after working with some nasty unhappy people in the past.

I had been in a similar delimma and chose the easier temp job. I don’t regret it, but I know I could’ve handled a little more once I started. Going back I should’ve picked the job with better opportunities. I feel passion is also important to what you’re doing, so I’d pick the job you think you enjoy more, or would consider doing more of in the future.

The officer who put me into job placement say that the present job would mean physical manual job for the future. The second job might lead to other clerical jobs. She thinks I should try the latter. I think the second job is more fun. I’ll make some slides to share knowledge. Not bad.
