Tried connecting with #schizophrenia related folks on Twitter but the lack of privacy totally sucks so I deleted my account.
Twitter sucks, period. Elon broke it. Mastodon is much more civil.
Mastodon looks complicated but it’s free of the middle finger of Elon.
Agreed it’s far from perfect, but (a) I don’t want to lose those I interact with quite a lot on Twitter (b)I’ve heard it’s quite complicated to use. For all its faults there’s no fiddle faddle when it comes to using Twitter. I can’t be doing with fiddle faddle.
You just pick a community (server instance) to join and sign up. You’ll get a confirmation email to click on and Bob’s yer uncle.
How are the communities defined? By topic? I’d want one that would cover politics, mental health/illness/ASD plus whatever piqued my interest.
I’ve had a look myself . The problem is I’d like one that covers that , and the other things I mentioned. For all its faults Twitter has a bit of everything that interests me. Unless Mastodon can provide that,it’s a non starter for me.
You can discuss whatever you want so long as you don’t break the rules of your home server. I’m on mstdn.ca, which is intended for Canadians. I mostly post about photography and cooking as I’m tired of fighting about politics. I can engage on any other issue I choose to with others on different servers or my own server.
I joined. Not much happening. Looks better than Twitter. I’ve not come across any people I interact with on Twitter.
Very slow re new items . If you share a link there isn’t a small preview. Not overly impressed so far.
The link thing needs work. Click on the Federated feed - should be super active.
Never been on Twitter, it never grew on me.
Still lurking on Facebook, although I only post once or twice a year there.
Staying away from TikTok as the dumbing down happening on there is too much.
Following a few interesting accounts on Instagram: photography, history of science, math and paintings.
Keeping my friends close on WhatsApp.
Vaguely heard of Telegram and various Discord servers, didn’t bother to check them out yet.
This is from Twitter.
When I click on it on Twitter it takes me to the article. That’s what I want from Mastodon.
