It says the video is not available. Can you describe what it’s about?
The way the government treats disabled people with contempt when they apply for benefits
Some people committed suicide, so I added a TW
That’s really sad. But here the Guardians of Social Security can be really cold and viscious in my experience.
I’m still waiting to hear re my reassessment. It’s been nearly 9 months since the forms were sent back to them. If people do well in life it’s very often due to them doing well in the genetic lottery of life. If people do badly it’s the opposite. In the UK we live in a society where doing well is seen as a sign of good character. You’re honourable and hard working. The ‘doing well in the genetic lottery of life’ is totally ignored . If you’re poor and struggling and/ or have poor mental and/or physical health you’re branded all too often as lazy and of bad character. Being ‘unfortunate in the genetic lottery of life’ is totally ignored.
Hang in there @firemonkey - I hope they come back to you soon
It can be very unsettling having to deal with these people
You’re right, it’s totally ignored
What hit me was the stat at the end of that programme where 35% of the UK population think that we’re a burden on society
Might be true financially, but you can’t judge people based on money. That’s so inhumane, but that’s what we’re bred for I guess in the eyes of the economy and these people who have no idea what it’s like to have a faulty body
Not even the word of the professionals treating a person is good enough, and they spend all that time training them to diagnose and treat
Thanks @Joker I’m wary after what happened to my brother. He’d had it for years, but got turned down when reassessed this time . He has HIV related psychosis.
That stat is awful . No doubt fuelled by the ‘scrounger rhetoric’.
I hope he asked for a reconsideration or appeal
Definitely is. There is not a very nice atmosphere surrounding this, and from what the DWP employee said in that video, the staff are not very understanding at all either
They should get a report from the treating doctor or nurse, not get some crappy private companies who probably get a kick back when they save DWP money
Sickening process, it really is
Totally agree. All too often assessors think it morally acceptable to lie through their teeth in producing a report on you.
The information I’ve seen from rich people getting loans from the government and from businesses getting hand outs I no longer feel like some special class of leach.
I’m a person that unfortunately got a mental illness. I think a lot of people chip in to programs for the specific goal of making sure if they’re truly in need they get help.
Well I’m getting help. I’m truly in need.
Its just a bummer that sometimes you feel bad about something like this. I hope eventually you feel better about this specific kind of thinking.
This makes me rage. I am holding back my rant.
Just saying - we don’t have to means test everyone, there is enough wealth in this world to take care of people.
