Proposed $800 billion in cuts to medicaid in US. Will this affect Schizophrenics like myself? It is complicated.
I heard that the Food Stamp program will be affected also.
How do they sleep at night?
On gold embroidered 600 thread count sheets.
just 600 count? we should just stop with the charade and elect mickey mouse as dictator for life…that would be more honest than the current system…
Yeah, 600 thread count, but they’re washed in the tears of orphans and dried with the last breaths of the elderly.
Forgot to mention that part.
“Every gun that is made, every warship that is launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron.”
Dwight D. Eisenhower
Medicaid would be cut, SSDI would be cut, SNAP (food stamps) would be cut.
This is a flawed attempt to balance the budget on the backs of the poor and sick.
It’s disgusting.
Thanks for the correction, @IndustrialLad
Yea, this will negatively impact our sz community, as a lot of us depend on medicaid, medical, all that stuff for meds.
I’ve been seeing some version of this “they need meds not guns” image, I think it’s a scare tactic to vilify sz’s.

I hate when they try to get us medical help by calling us all potential mass murderers.
Like, can we stop with this hysterical inciting of hatred against the mentally ill and just treat our illnesses with compassion?
I get that some of us will kill ourselves or even rarer, maybe another human, but to label all of potential mass murderers is pure slander and jeopardizes our physical safety out in the community.
It won’t even do that.

Kenneth Cole should stick to designing overpriced, crappy shoes.

I’m only Canadian, so here’s a better response:
Normally, we try to avoid political threads, but since this could be a useful discussion (and is certainly relevant), I’m not going to close it. But please, everyone, keep the posts relevant to mental health and the proposed spending cuts. Please avoid general political discussions and be nice to each other.
Fewer people having Medicaid means that fewer people will go to a doctor for regular checkups and when symptoms appear. This means these issues will go undetected or untreated. If all you care about is saving money then you are in for a rude awakening when these individuals automatically qualify for Medicare. They go to the doctors and suddenly have number of health problems that are now much worse. They require more specialists, medication, equipment, and overall health services, all paid for by Medicare. They are “sicker” because they didn’t go to the doctors early on when the symptoms were more easily treatable.
Taking Medicaid away from millions simply raises the price of Medicare x number of years down the road as the sicker people automatically qualify for the program. If saving money is the objective then it would seem prudent to invest in a program that helps prevent disease and ailments from becoming more serious, given that the government will cover the person later in life.
The article doesn’t say who is being cut from the program.
I don’t think those on SSI should be cut but that’s just me. However, I do believe healthcare should be more affordable for working families than it is now.
Most Americans don’t have a chronic disease; they work and pay taxes.
The best we can do is let our elected officials know how we feel so they can vote appropriately.
Someone with some skin in the game should draft a letter we can send to our Senators.
I have heard they are cutting low in come people from Medicaid, those that don’t have serious chronic illnesses but who knows whats the truth
That’s exactly right. Making sure that sick people get medical treatment early so the condition doesn’t worsen is both the humane thing to do and the least expensive option in the long run.
That meant that have been cuts for investigation on new meds?
I heard on nbc news that they might be cutting social security disability a little. Again I don’t know if its true.
The proposed U.S. budget for 2018 does call for cuts to SSDI.
This article gives us an idea on the impact it will have:
