So…all the support information about disabilities and resources for the disabled has been eradicated from the White House website. I expect massive cuts to all agencies funding disability-support programs.
I don’t want to get into the politics.
I just want to discuss how those of us who are struggling and getting support due to sz’s effect on our lives, especially in terms of employment.
How will we survive? I assume medi-cal will be cut, that means a lot of us won’t get our medications anymore.
What can we do for those of us who aren’t supported by rich parents who pay for their mental health treatment? Very few of us can afford the price tag (my Abilify was 700 dollars right before the generic came out, but my pdoc doesn’t trust the generic so gov is paying a buttload for my injections. NO WAY I can afford 700 dollars a month in pills alone.
Very few of us will be able to get coverage for private health insurance due to pre-existing conditions—I wouldn’t be surprised if the government law forbidding discrimination gets eradicated as well, leaving us with no health insurance from either assisted gov programs or private health insurance.
Ideas for surviving?
I’m getting anxiety attacks and paranoia thinking about this. My death seems imminent as I cannot survive on the streets.
Yes, it seems big changes are coming.
I’m really frightened that my insurance coverage will be changed for the worse.
Without proper medication coverage I will end up in jail or crazed living on the streets.
I’m really worried too.
I’m very afraid of medicaid being cut in my state. I can’t afford almost $700 a month for pills (and that’s the generic!). I don’t know what I’d do without my meds, honestly.
Despite how I keep trying to combat the hysteria and trump bashing thread that come along; I think that there is a chance that republicans could cut funding to all of that. Which I know would be bad for many of the people on this forum maybe even me even though I don’t know all the ins and outs of how I get care. No sense freaking out over nothing. They haven’t really talked about do that from what I heard. If you are concerned then do what I do many times. Send a message to your congressman and senators and such(I always do it online). I think they or someone they pay are reading the messages sent to them. They at least listen to them somewhat to see which way the wind if blowing. If schizophrenics let their opinion be known they could be treated as a voting block.
Sz’s are mostly poor due to the inability to get/keep a job and rely on gov assistance. That’s going to be taken away. Unless free abilify pills are going to be handed out by nice pharmaceutical companies, then no it’s not going to be improved for those of us who have SZ.
For those of with severe sz, who have had their livelihoods taken away, who’ve lost jobs because of it and are actively discriminated in the work place, living in the lower economic classes is a lifelong reality.
Is the new gov doling out free 700 dollar pills? Is he asking his cronies at big pharma to please hand out free vouchers and give away 700 dollar pills for free? Health care will likely be privatized, meaning that they’ll likely go back to their old practices of not insuring those of with SZ. As the website for government practices on the civil rights of those with disabilities has been eradicated as well, I doubt our new gov will push to have equal access to private insurance despite pre-existing health conditions.
Meaning no health care, no insurance, no access to jobs that would pay enough to cover the monthly cost of medicine and everything out of pocket.
@SP2342 I’ve been signing petitions on a daily basis. The We the People website where we can have the WH address our issues has had its certificate revoked–it’s not there. I know because I went to sign a petition and the We the People site was gone.
I am quite anxious about this. They mentioned cutting coverage and benefits for people with pre-existing conditions and that worries me. I am worried the mental health industry will become expensive and unaffordable or stagnant.
Well I recommended talking to your congressman. I think most if not all of them have a website. Just type their name into google. Trump can propose anything he wants but representatives and senators have to still vote on it. At least that is the best I can suggest as we are not a democracy. We are a representative republic. If you want to spend the time you can try to send messages to every congressman. That would take a lot of work. You could get a republican congressman to flip they do it all the time.
I’m not that well acquainted with all the ins and outs of obamacare. You say that Obama had already cut funding for mental heatlh? Anyway I didn’t know about all of that. Everybody on hear seems to swear by obamacare like it is the best thing in the world. I don’t know because when I tried to get insurance it was because of the Affordable care act. So I had no problem getting insurance. Don’t know if that is the way it would’ve been before though.
Cut funds does not equal cut PROGRAMS. I’m worried about medi-cal being cut and supportive medical programs for indigents.
Here, I’ll paste my worries again in case you didn’t read it
This is an admin that wants only corporate insurance coverage. Corporate insurance companies have been denying people with pre-existing conditions until the GOV stepped in and said no. Now, who will say don’t discriminate against us, if there is nobody to enforce fair access to health care?
My fears is that the entire safety net for those of us at the bottom will be removed, meaning many of us will die needlessly. My fears are that we will go back to being subject to discriminatory policies forbidding us from getting insurance coverage.
My fear is that supportive agencies like the department for civil rights for those with disabilities and the department of rehab will be dismantled and corporation right to profit will come before our right to live.
And yes, I am worried when whoever is president cuts funds for mental health care, or gives us extra funds ONLY after a mass shooting that sz’s had nothing to do with. It’s all horrible and a very good reason to worry.
Here’s an article and a quote:
Now they’re in charge and frankly, I don’t want to get spanked.
this will probably be considered a negative thought pattern but i figure if worse comes to worse i will end up in jail for not paying my credit card bill. that while i will have something to eat. i will food while i run up the bill and i will have food while i am in jail. but hopefully i would be able to find my way into a hospital if i had no way of getting of food, but you never know…
I can see why you’re frightened though. Sites like msnbc and washington post that like to bash republicans popped up first. This is a little different then what I heard on television about a week ago though. Also
