A couple friends, a guy and a girl, were having an argument over gender identity. The girl was saying how no guy could ever know what it’s like to be a woman and saying that one “feels” like a girl is not true. And I somehow got into the conversation and was saying how guys who get raped by guys can start to question their sexuality. My lady friend said (I’m assuming she knows I’m with a psychotic disorder) brought up a counter argument that if a person with schizophrenia had a delusion, people wouldn’t go and support that delusion. And so I am thinking about this now, a few weeks later, and that if someone truly believed the delusion with all their heart and soul, they wouldn’t change their mind anyway. And that comes after hearing a conversation on youtube (albeit out of context but that’s irrelevant to the point being made) where some people will maliciously take a sensitive topic that somebody speaks about and purposely warp it to fit their narrative. Even if you use sensitive wording, people will still purposely take another’s words and twist them to fit their benefit.
I hope I did not trigger anyone here and I just wanted somewhere to speak about this. Thank you.
Ok so yeah this is gaslighting I had it done to me for years and it is ■■■■■■ up and manipulative.
As far as gender identity goes it’s not a delusion there are plenty of trans individuals that have no mental problems other than gender dysphoria. To say that they’re delusional doesn’t truly fit because the main problem that comes from being trans is society’s perception of how gender roles should be.
They are two different mind sets. It’s like comparing western Christianity to Ancient snake worship. They aren’t exactly gonna have that much cross over lol
But the person who I was listening to in the video was Sam Harris in a conversation with Neil deGrasse Tyson about Sam publishing scientific works that are well thought out to be publicly shown but some still take the words and manipulate them consciously to fit their benefit.
As far as gender identity. I said they are different mindsets (gender identity & schizophrenia). And gender identity can be associated with many different mental illnesses, but does that mean they all are? I don’t think so.
Gender is a social construct. Many ancient religions (some that survive to this day) had an idea of mixing things, often that would involve gender as well.
Agreed this. It’s one of the main areas of issue I have with my own gender identity - a lot of it seems like capitulation to absolutely ridiculous societal rules that serve no purpose other than habit and comfort. If anything, I’m agender, which really means that I reject the concept of gender as a whole.
