Trazodone as a sleep med

I was prescribed Trazodone for sleep. The first 2 nights, I took 50 mg. It didn’t work. So tonight I’m trying 100 mg. I’m allowed to go up to 150 mg.

Have you tried it? If it worked, how long have you been taking it? Did it stop working after a while?

It gave me heart palpitations and I felt drugged the next day. Not for me.

Melatonin is good for sleep. And it’s free in pharmacies. At least in my country.

@Nirvana . It’s not free in the US where I am. Plus, I took 10 mg every night for a month and it never helped me sleep at all. So I started the second month taking 10 mg of melatonin and 50 mg of Benedryl at bedtime. No sleep. It simply doesn’t work. So I have been trying to figure out how to sleep.

There is a therapy for sleep disorders called phototherapy or light therapy. You should find out. It consists of repairing the circadian rhythm.

I had a strange reaction to trazodone. I couldn’t fall asleep on it. So I raised it to 100mg from 50mg and it caused an overdose. I felt like I was dying. They wanted to keep me in the hospital but I went home. I hope it begins to help or you can get something else.

I liked it a lot, but aftwr about a year I began getting restless legs when I took it.

I now use amitryptiline when I need to sleep.

It’s an antidepressant, so helping sleep is a side effect!

I’m on trazodone since 2019. I take 50 miligrames and it works every night. It doesn’t stop working because it’s not a benzodiazepine. It’s an antidepressant.

I’m glad you found something that works. I just checked and with my insurance it’s $23/ mo so it wouldn’t be too choice for me but I’ll keep it in mind for sure. Trazodone is $0 for me. I can swing $23 if I really need to do I’ll definitely keep that drug as a possibility.

Yes, @FreeLunch , I tend to need the highest dose with psych meds. I don’t know why.
