How long would you hold onto old clothes you don’t fit into anymore?
In the past 2 years I’ve gone from an 8 to an 18, and I have clothes in every size in between.
Now I have mountains of clothes and no where to put them. Of course the plan is to lose weight, but who knows if and when that will happen.
Should I hang onto my old clothes or should I donate them? They’re not expensive or anything. When I started gaining I started buying a lot of cheaper clothes because I didn’t plan on staying this weight for long.
Can you put the clothes in boxes and maybe a friend or family member who has room at their house will let you store them in a garage or shed or something?
I’d keep a few outfits from each size in boxes. That way, as you lose weight you’ll have the basics for each size and won’t have to buy a whole new wardrobe each time your size changes. I went up 5 sizes in the last 2 years, so I totally understand.
I am very quick to donate things myself. Too quick usually.
I’ve gone from an 8 to a 20 in the last two years, so i get it.
In a recent manic episode, i bought clothing in all the sizes in between so I’d be “ready” as a miracle happened and I dropped 85 pounds again.
Everything smaller than a 16 is headed back to Amazon on Monday.
As you said about the hysterectomy, menopause is no joke. Between that and my psych meds, I’ll be lucky to lose 35 of those 85 pounds. Just being realistic.
Not saying this in a new agey hippie dippy way, but I’m big on the energy of things, ie I dont wear expensive clothing either, and once I’ve made a big weight change, up or down, I want all new energy in my closet.
8 to 18 is a big range. I’d go for for the clean sweep and fresh start, and set a realistic expectation taking all your current variables into consideration. In my case, 16/18/20/XL/2X stays, and i can buy more inexpensive clothing later to get a fresh start. In the meantime, there’s so many people who need my clothing right now.
I’m making frequent efforts to lose weight and get more fit, but my goodness, does menopause ever permanently change the possibilities!
CoCo makes sense, but I am way too impulsive for that. You should listen to her!
I hear ya! I’ve had weight fluctuations ever since having my uterus and ovaries removed in my early 30s. I also started APs in my mid thirties and that has made it even worse.
I’ve been doing well and lost so much I’ve had to buy pants every couple of months.
Still. Just cleaned out the spare room over xmas. Got rid of 5 bags of clothes. Not that they aren’t my size which some were. More that I need to make room in my life where I wear the same things through the week anyways so why am I hoarding clothes?
I’m in a minimalist phase now I’m older. Get rid of the stuff you won’t need. Keep the stuff you may need but review in 6 months if your losing or gaining weight.
