Those in the UK - how often do you see a pdoc

I’m not talking about nurses. I mean how often do you see a pdoc?

I had been experiencing lot of anxiety so I asked to see someone. So an appointment was booked for me. I ended up seeing a nurse. Not a pdoc. But he advised I’m still on a wait-list for dbt. It’s been some months. Then discharged me back to my gp. I can’t tell you how much I envy those of you who get to see someone every 6 months. I think some of you feel I’m making stuff up now and I’m feeling rubbish. I’m not lying. I honestly don’t see a pdoc often and i just feel like I don’t know what it is I’m doing to not deserve getting the help I want and need. I see an employment specialist to help me look but that’s about it right now.

Come to think of it , my assessor last week for my add assessment thought it odd I don’t see someone on a regular basis.

I’m not in the UK but i’ve only seen a pdoc once in my life, here in Canada.

If I remember correctly, it was a long wait to see one. And I didnt like her so I never went back.

The only time i see a real pdoc is when I’m in the hospital…otherwise it’s always a nurse practitioner or physician assistant. I typically see my med prescriber once a month. There’s just not enough real pdocs here…

Thank you. I wish seeing a pdoc outside of my borough / county was an option like it is with psychical health conditions. if I had asthma I could go to any hospital. Not so much with mental health. Pretty much stuck unless I move.

I’d say as long as you can see someone for medication management on a frequent basis that’s pretty good. I see an aprn every 3 or 6 months for medication management. I can get in sooner if I need to.

I’m in the uk. I see a psychiatrist every 6 months. I had cbt therapy for anxiety for a few months then i was discharged to another therapy team where we did more exposure therapy. If i have a lot of voices/paranoia creeping in i just let them know and I normally get to see a psychiatrist fairly quick.

I was seeing a psychiatrist every 6 months, but now I’m not seeing him anymore - i’m still in the community mental health team so I see a nurse.

I haven’t see a pdoc for several years now. I see my care coordinator who is also my depot nurse every 3 months for my depot. In between the depots she phones to see how I’m doing. My main psychiatric issues now are the severe social anxiety and the psychological effects of the bullying related trauma. Some in my position might be tempted to drop the depot. I’m not willing to take the risk.

I see the doctor whenever something goes wrong

Seem him once face to face a spoke on the phone a couple of times this year

Once a year. Unless I’m not well then it’s more frequent.

I also see a nurse practitioner, I like her better than my last psychiatrist. She’s very nice and easy to talk to.

Every 4-6 months. Still on the SMI register.

If you are going to take anti-psychotics for life my belief is you should see one indefinitely.

Boy im thankful for medical care in the US. As often as necessary when in crisis (usually once every couple of weeks to let the meds start to take effect) and once every four to six weeks regularly.

My councelor is trying to open me up to other pdocs because he seems to believe in constantly trying different med combinations.

That being said i found an amazing pdoc that i can try any meds out with hes just not okay with running trial and error experiments on my brain without real cause. Ive got great trust with him.

We have a shortage of Psychiatrist and the like here, but i see my P/doc every 3-4 months atm, in the past it was every month and i would see my cpn in the past every week, (i don’t have a cpn now)

I was discharged from the mental health team nearly 20 years ago so I haven’t seen a psychiatrist (pdoc) since then. It was mostly a waste of time seeing them when I was well (how are you? good thank you. Ok see you next time). I only hear from my general practitioner every few years for medication review. My prolactin is high so they have referred this to the mental health team about 4 months ago. Waiting to hear back but mental health is chronically under resourced in the UK.
