Thinking of cutting my meds in half, I’ve got a pill cutter.
It would be without advice from a pdoc.
My pills are 7.5 mg of zyprexa, thinking of halving them.
Maybe I will lose some weight, or stop being diabetic.
Anyone else tried this?

Have you tried more meds? If you’re diabetic and in need to lose weight, maybe you can talk to your pdoc and change medication?
As far as I know diabetes can’t be reversed and cutting your pills in half will worsen your symptoms. I understand how you feel because I’ve wanted to cut my meds many times and felt I could somehow deal with the voices at a higher level if I had the fortitude and lose that weight but it’s never worked.
I don’t want more meds… I don’t see a pdoc Minnii just a therapist, and that will end soon.
I don’t want to change meds, when I’ve tried that in the past I started losing my mind. The support services here where I live are crap, they don’t help unless you try to kill yourself
I’m gonna do it.
If i start posting on here about the mafia trying to kill me, you will know I’m losing it.
Well that sucks… I don’t think halving your med is the best idea, honestly.
Zyprexa is a bad med, but you’re already on a low dose so you shouldn’t have terrible metabolic effects. Halving 7.5 is a big step, you will probably have an increase in symptoms if you do that. I wouldn’t try it if I were you because I need high dose meds, thats just me, but if you feel like it will help you might as well. Just be ready to go back to the normal dose If you feel like you’re going crazy.
Yeh I would be ready to return to the full dose if i started getting sick, having bad symptoms.
Medicine effect requires for 24 hours in blood circulation.
I just started halving mine last night. My doctor wouldn’t switch me to Latuda, but he did switch me from Abilify Maintena to a lower dose of regular Abilify. I’m not gaining weight but I’m tired of all the side effects I’m getting from the Abilify.
If I halved the dose, would it half the weight gain, do you know?
When I was on 10mg Zyprexa I was a dizzy zombi, gained a lot of weight, had constant sugar cravings and lost my periods. It was really harsh. With 5mg I felt a lot better and had no symptoms. Under a certain dose (I think around the dose you are aiming for…3.75mg or so) I lost the constant hunger completely and regained my personality and my hormones were back to normal too. But I also had somewhat more symptoms…delusional thoughts and weird anxieties and distrust of other people.
Then I wanted off all meds, because I wanted more of the happy off-med feelings and got paranoid about meds. I came to zero and crashed. I had major terror and depression and psychosis like never before Zyprexa.
Please be careful, go slow and be honest to yourself about the amount of symptoms. Zyprexa was hard to withdraw from for me, much harder than any other med. Being on a somewhat lower dose (5mg) was helpful to me though to counter the side effects and keep the sanity.
I would research it but I’m too lazy, you’re already on a low dose so your weight gain shouldn’t be terrible. I was on 25-35 Zyprexa and I felt terrible. Thank god I got off it.
IF you half your meds double your activities and I wouldn’t do that without a doctors consent dude.
I had got the pdoc to cut my dose of the Haldol shot down to about a half of what I had been taking. I was also drinking a lot of coffee, taking a lot of ephedrine, and doing a moderate workout. I got really high from that routine. I didn’t sleep for a week. During this time my family had a Thanksgiving dinner with my brother and sister and niece and nephews. Everyone was sitting around making nice conversation, and I was pacing back and forth fuming about death and destruction. They finally called the cops and got me put away in an involuntary commitment.
when I was on invega depot and invega pills I cut down the dose of the pills without talking to my doctor, she was so mad at me she told me she cant see me as a patient anymore. (this was almost a year and a half ago) so I went to a different pdoc. he took me off invega and put me on a medium dose of Haldol. now i’m on a higher dose but feeling better I still see shadow people and creatures but its only been 2 weeks since my appointment so i’m waiting for another week. anyway got off subject, its dangerous to cut meds it can affect you and even your relationship with your doctor. the original doctor (h is what i’ll call her) h said I violated my patient agreement and violated her trust.
I felt fine the first few days; but then I started hallucinating everyone around me was thinking of hurting me and coming up with plans to do so. I usually don’t have the delusion that I can read minds so that was new for me.
Cutting my dose of risperdal in half landed me back in the hospital. I wouldn’t do it without dr supervision.
Messed around for years changing my dosage, trying to take as little as possible. Don’t think it helped only slowed down my recovery. Final found out I do best on what my doctor advised. But we did end up changing meds several times. I do best on haldol and Zoloft. Cheap meds that do the job .
I think the smartest thing in most situations is to not to adjust your meds without a doctors approval.
UNLESS, it’s an emergency. Us people with schizophrenia know quite a few things about medication from our first hand experience with it, but the doctors have years of school and years of observing patients that we don’t have and can give objective, educated, advice about meds that we don’t possess.
Cut my dose in half because a full pill was too much. I’m doing well but don’t know how long it’ll last.
