Thinking of deleting my 23andMe account. It offers very little of value unless I upgrade, which I don’t want to do. More precisely I don’t want to send off a new sample in order to upgrade. There should be no need to have to do so.
Is 23andme still operating? I’m surprised…
I tried 23 and me I’m wondering how accurate is it from everyone else’s experience
Foreign government will thank you for an updated DNA profile if you do.
That sounds a bit like a conspiracy theory idk if it is but what why would a government care about your DNA you have me interested to what “they” are gonna do
If they restored the chromosome browser I’d be a little less likely to delete my account. Their sales tactic sucks big time. They should be encouraging people to stay. What comes over loud and clearly though is that maximising profits matters more than providing a quality product.
Did it tell you, if you’re related to famous people? I was thinking of getting it, for that reason.
It doesn’t do that.
Not intentionally.
I would not be surprised if there are others who compromised their security and data without being noticed.
Some governments seem to have an affinity for DNA data.
. I wasn’t replying to your comment. I was replying to Devra’s.My fault
Whoops! Sorry. All good, friend.
Yes, I’m paranoid, but just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean you’re always wrong.
The more expensive test is supposed to tell if you’re related to historical ancestors.
Thanks. I’d not kept up to date with what the more expensive version offers. What I do know from my cousin matches is that I may be related ,distantly, to Daniel Boone and Brigham Young.
I upgraded to premium.
I like some of the new features.
If they offered the upgrade at a reasonable price, and without having to retest, I’d certainly do so. The fact that they don’t means for me they’ve become useless re tracing ancestors. My current total number of genetic cousins there is a ridiculously low . I can’t say the exact number, as for me their site is currently inaccessible, but it’s less than 2,000.
The lack of a chromosome browser since the data breach doesn’t help matters.
Yeah, if my sole purpose for 23AndMe were tracing my ancestry, I would probably cancel that and pay ancestry websites more money instead, such as ancestry.com
I mostly use historical records for tracing my ancestry. The paternal and maternal haplogroups on 23AndMe were interesting to me, though.

Mine are very out of date. Re health reports: I’ve joined sites such as sequencing.com and genomelink and their predictions based on DNA are barely better than could be obtained by chance.

I don’t think that I’m qualified to say much about that. I’ve started preparing to take a biochemistry class; but, genetic predispositions to health conditions are still way outside what I know much about.
How good was it for tracing your ancestry?
I was considering buying a DNA sample and trying it, but I was always worried about a data breach, or whatever they were doing with our DNA info in the first place

How good was it for tracing your ancestry?
Not as good as ancestry.com; but, still effective.
